Leaf Cowl Complete

Image
If you're looking for a quick knitting project for some holiday gift giving, this cowl could easily fit your needs.  I loved how fast this knit up and it only used one skein of my yarn, that is less than 192 yards of DK weight! As you may remember, I love wool/silk blends and this one is ultra soft!  I also love how silk give a tweedy look to the wool.  Delicious! Ravelry notes are here

Weekends

Weekends are for memory making,  relaxing and enjoying quiet moments of our days.   If you would like, please share your weekend moments  in the comments section of the blog. Saturday morning my husband and I headed off early in the morning for the Endless Mountains Fiber Festival .  The ride is long and lovely.  After we drive through two cities we are surrounded by mountains.  Pennsylvania is quite beautiful. I enjoyed browsing the lovely yarns and this year there were quite a few pottery stalls!  I don't know how you shop these kind of events, but I have to go through once and then go back and buy.  I wish I could just buy on the spot but I question if that is what I really really want. However going through more than once is double the fun. I did buy a skein of red wool for a soon-to-be scarf for my son.  I'm not sure what pattern, but I do know he requested dark red.  Mission accomplished! I love the warning sign and there is nary a horse to be

Learning New Skills

Remember this blanket?  Well, I've unearthed the project, dusted the blanket off and resumed knitting while watching TV in the evenings.  The heat wave is still going full blast outside but inside, I am blissfully in an "autumn" state of mind.  Each day comes and goes and daylight is lost a tiny bit, the angle of the sun makes the heat bearable and I know cozy days are ahead of me. This week I started a self guided photography course that I've been meaning to start for ages.  I was delighted to take notes but more importantly to learn something new!  My grandfather (Mom's dad) was a huge proponent of self education. He claimed that anything could be learned with a book.  I have to agree, I learned to knit through self education.  I am partial to a "real" book as well.  Being able to flip through pages, jump from chapter to chapter is much easier with a physical book than a digital book.  My main mode of learning is by reading.  If you tell

Good morning! Once again it's time to share what I am knitting this past week. My shawl (brown) is coming along nicely - I have two more repeats until I get to the juicy leaf knitting.  I hope I have enough yarn - I think I'll be okay.  I think... My yellow shawl ( dandelion daze shawl ) is making steady significant progress.  I'm trying to do a repeat a day, sometimes two repeats.  I'm over half way with the knitting and I'm going until the skein is nearly done. Even though it's hot outside, inside my house is fall. I pulled out the fall decorations and when I look out the window the leaves are changing.  One more week of hot temperatures and maybe Mother Nature will get on board with me.  I can hope. Onto my reading : I'm reading two books, first off is The Lake House, I am thoroughly enjoying this book.  I have to confess, I've liked everything she has written, so I'm biased.  This book is my evening book to read.  During the day

Weekends are for memory making,  relaxing and enjoying quiet moments of our days.   If you would like, please share your weekend moments  in the comments section of the blog. This weekend has been glorious and we have an extra day.  Bliss!  Friday night was dinner out even though we ate out for our anniversary earlier in the week. It felt a little extravagant.  Since the weather cooled down we went for an evening walk to check out the oil and chipped dirt road which isn't much of a dirt road now but that's its name. I am ready (ready!!!) for fall but I will miss after dinner walks. Yesterday our son arrived mid morning to spend a few nights here.  I'm thrilled his commute is short compared to Boston.  We jam packed our day - lots of talking in the afternoon then after dinner we did a bit of shopping. Afterwards we headed to our town park. I grabbed the camera and went around shooting and enjoying the scenery.  I grew up in the city (Pittsburgh) and

Day Dreaming

Image
We celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary earlier this week.  I cannot believe it's been that long, I think when you have children that wipes out about 15 years of your sense to time passing.  Getting older makes time go fast as well.  I am thrilled that we are in September!  Yesterday I heard the geese honking and the sound was welcoming.  Oh my.  Fall is whispering gently and I hear her (definitely not a him).  I catch myself dreaming of mitts and hats.  As a knitter that's what day dreaming is about. I confess that I've worn jeans two days in a row!  I decided to buy a pair of straight leg after years of boot leg cut.  I feel like a different person and somewhat stylish. The knitting has been productive here.  I cast on for a little knit along with tracey and she has excellent taste on what to knit.  You can still join in on the together knitting! I finished the  cowl  and just need to block it wide.  I think this might be the early fall cowl of the season.

I bought both of these books over the weekend and I started both as well.  This is unusual since I take some time to get around to starting books (I have quite the "to read" pile in my bedroom).  I'm reading The Lake House in the evening and while I'm cooking dinner I read a few pages of The Once and Future King .  I'm excited about both reads but have no opinions as of yet. My Leaf Cowl is almost done!  What a delightful pattern that knits up quickly and is pretty.  I just might cast on another one for the gift pile.  Also I started Silverleaf shawl  to join in a lovely Knitalong started my the wonderful Tracey at Clover blog .  Care to join?  Please do.  Also we are keeping up with our projects on Instagram. If you missed the post, I finished my Antarktis Shawl and posted here What are you knitting and reading this week? Joining Ginny and Frontier Dreams

Antarktis Shawl Complete

Image
As I showed you on Friday's post of the mere six inches left of this pretty skein, I completed my shawl and only sacrificed ONE row of the pattern.  I could easily knit his pattern again and again.  If you haven't knit Antarktis , well maybe you should! I enjoyed the design of starting a shawl at one end and then creating the triangle tip to tip.  Also, this shawl can use one skein of fingering weight yarn of 430 ish yards.  I had 399 yards so of course I was thinking of how to finish the shawl with what I had. Details are here on my ravelry page

Weekends are for memory making,  relaxing and enjoying quiet moments of our days.   If you would like, please share your weekend moments  in the comments section of the blog. Another weekend has come and gone - amazing how I collect weekend after weekend and sometimes they seem the same and at other times well, they are different.  Even though summer is clinging onto by a thread there are signs of fall.  A stray leaf here and there from my maples.  The days are shorter and the mornings are darker (I love that the best). This weekend was part of our "staycation" time together. We ate out for lunch on Thursday after shopping for suits for him (yawn...).  Friday we ate out for dinner because we are on vacation.  Yesterday we had homemade pizza outside on the patio because we are on vacation.  So many little actions adding up to a relaxing state of mind.  Where ever we drove, we chose the scenic route taking in the hills and farmlands.  Pennsylvania gets more be

Knitting Truths

Image
Earlier this week when the weather was somewhat fall-like and I was so happy for the hint of a change in season, I went a little crazy and pulled out some yarns to consider knitting up.  I was and still am motivated and excited about my fall knitting season. I'm ignoring the weather (it's hot once more) and I'm focusing on the upcoming cold weather.  It will come one day.  My oaks are dropping acorns here and there and the squirrels are doing their mad dashes across the road risking their lives.  I cannot count how many times I've looked in the rearview mirror hoping they were alive. So far my driving skills and prayers have saved them. My knitting truths: -I am motivated by the yarn.  I buy before I have an idea of what the yarn will become.  I rarely buy yarn for a specific project and if I do, I change my mind and it's knit up into something else. the speckled yarn is happy feet 100 splash by plymouth yarn co inc -I am inspired by other projects I

Yesterday I started something new and I have been in knitting heaven!  This sweet cowl caught my eye a while ago and it's been in my Ravelry queue.  I'm a little concerned that the cowl will be too small but for now I'm knitting away and I'll decide on whether I need to adjust the pattern once I have a few inches committed to the project.  I am totally fine with ripping out and starting over.  It's what knitters do! Oh, my reading is the same and it's been quite slow this week.  I am still reading this book and I am still enjoying the story immensely.  My time has been limited this week for reading and when I do read, it's right before bed and I fall asleep.
