Resistance to Change

Image
I've been reflecting on my resistance to change.  Why am I?  I confess, I am a creature of habit, I wake nearly at the same time, I eat the same breakfast, and try my best to adhere to a similar schedule of sorts on a weekday basis.  As you know, I'm a repeat offender eating a Cheerio breakfast.  This repetitive process helps me maintain a level of contentment.  I thrive on sameness. In nature, nothing stays stagnant.  Each day the sun shines differently as it cycles through seasons.  The trees, flowers and wild animals change with the seasons and with their respective life cycle.  I love to observe nature changing.  I'll walk around with my camera in a state of wonder.  This earth is beautiful.  I am lucky to witness these seasonal changes.  Whether I want to admit it or not, change is a fact of life.  We are all aging.  We seek change in our life and  sometimes we are handed some unpleasant changes -- maybe ill health, or challenging relationships or job/no

Knitting News and a Read Along

Since arriving home on Sunday,  I've been relishing my 'homebody' state of mind.  Traveling is difficult for me at times - I crave the sameness of my everyday.  Yet I want to see places and do things!  That is why a weekend getaway is the best. My knitting has been the same.  I'm on the first sleeve of my sister's cardigan .  I'm confident this sweater will be off the needles within two weeks, okay, maybe three weeks if I'm busy.  green sheen!  The Holey Rectangle shawl is zipping along.  In a few more inches, I'll be deciding if the rectangle is wide enough.  I know blocking will make it wider but still, nothing wrong in reassessing.  I have a feeling all will be well. My daughter invited me to participate in a read along with her for a classic novel during the month of May.  We discussed reading a classic novel together but could not decide on which classic novel.  She chose The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.  I know, I know, i

Weekends

We had a full weekend, I'm only just home barely an hour but I wanted to write this post.  We left yesterday morning to visit our daughter and son in law in Newark Delaware to celebrate our daughter's birthday.  The weather was spectacular!  Blue skies and warmish air with NO jacket.  Yikes!  This was weather that was due to all of us. We went to Wilmington to walk the river walk .  We had a little bit of a hiccup with the gps and navigating there but eventually with human help (store clerk), we found a place to park and walk. We had dinner out and then some frozen treats.  Everyone had a great time! We stayed in Newark for the evening so that we could drive to Brooklyn early in the morning for The Brooklyn Museum  for their special exhibit Bowie Is.  My husband is a huge fan of David Bowie and being married 30 years has me quite knowledgeable about his music.  I adored his 80's hits since I was a teen/young adult. The exhibit was more than I ex

What a week it's been, I've had a wee bit of stress and the opportunity to manage my stress.  Poor Miss Holly is on a strong antibiotic as a preventative measure since her suture site has slight fluid build up.  Hopefully the ten days will go quickly as I don't think this medicine is making her that happy.  I managed to get a same day vet appointment on Wednesday and then stressed out until I got there.  Once Holly was thoroughly examined, I breathed a sigh of relief.  I worried that I wasn't diligent enough with keeping Holly inactive (as if).  The vet reassured me that I went above and beyond and this happens frequently.  Phew. My husband and I go back and forth on which is better a dog or a cat.  I will defend dear sweet Frodo and his crazy idea of becoming friends with his nemesis in all the inefficient ways.  A dog is trainable .  I can catch a dog way faster than a cat.  Giving a dog medicine is so much easier than a cat.  I love how he adores me and is eager

Knitting News

I started a new project  intending to turn a square into a rectangle using the same amount of yarn.  I quickly did the math then proceeded to knit.  My math was wrong (!).  We were watching TV and I tried four separate times to do mental math to correct the spacing of the design while knitting at the same time.  This is what I've learned: - I cannot do mental math -I should not do mental math especially at night -I should not believe myself and feel confident of any redesigning issues after dinner time. I retired to bed thinking about my math problem and then in the morning, I solved the problem quickly with pen and paper and calculator.  Well well well.  I figured out the spacing in less than 2 minutes. My sister's cardigan is coming along splendidly.  I am on the ribbing, and all too soon I'll be knitting a sleeve - so excited and giddy! What are knitting or crafting these days?

Weekends

Did you have the glorious weekend that I had weather wise?  Oh I hope so!  Saturday afternoon the thermometer was teasing into the 80's.  I know, you're wondering how can a winter lover be excited about warm weather.  Well, I have to admit I do not mind warm weather when there is little to no humidity.  I sat outside in the sunshine and read my book.  Frodo was not having the warm weather, he wanted back inside where it was a bit cooler. I read Beartown  and finished the book after a mini reading marathon.  I went to a local cafe for lunch by myself and cracked open the book (I was maybe 1/4 into the story).  Well let me tell you what!  I was caught up into the scenes, setting and events intensely.  After my lunch,  I returned home and read all afternoon,  took a break for dinner then proceeded to read until the early evening.  On Saturday morning I finished the book.  I highly recommend,  but I warn that it involves a sensitive subject, although not graphic in details.

Around Here

Today just might very well be the first spring like day.  I'm planning on wearing my light spring jacket and enjoying the fresh air.  Spring!  All too soon the trees will start agreeing that spring is here and will be leafing out.  I'll be patient waiting, for now blue skies and a sun peeking out behind a cloud is good enough for me. On Monday, Miss Holly had her spaying operation and true to her shy self, she just stared at them in recovery refusing to eat or drink.  They discharged her informing me that she will be drowsy.  The instructions were:  no jumping (she jumped.), no running (she ran.)  and no licking (guess what - she licked).  Oh. my. goodness. I drove back to the vet for the third time to pick up a soft cone collar only to discover that it was way too big because she is a wee little cat.  I tried various other ways to stop her.  We ended up say stop it and kept a close eye on her.  For 24 hours after discharge she was hyper - then miraculously she crashe
