Weekends

We had a full weekend, I'm only just home barely an hour but I wanted to write this post.  We left yesterday morning to visit our daughter and son in law in Newark Delaware to celebrate our daughter's birthday.  The weather was spectacular!  Blue skies and warmish air with NO jacket.  Yikes!  This was weather that was due to all of us.

We went to Wilmington to walk the river walk.  We had a little bit of a hiccup with the gps and navigating there but eventually with human help (store clerk), we found a place to park and walk.

We had dinner out and then some frozen treats.  Everyone had a great time!

We stayed in Newark for the evening so that we could drive to Brooklyn early in the morning for The Brooklyn Museum for their special exhibit Bowie Is.  My husband is a huge fan of David Bowie and being married 30 years has me quite knowledgeable about his music.  I adored his 80's hits since I was a teen/young adult.

The exhibit was more than I expected it would be.  The displays were artistic like him and the museum used mixed media with TVs and sound tracks fading in and out with the blue tooth head sets.  It was cool.  Sadly photography was not allowed.  So I have a few pre-game photos.  Also, I have to admit my photography skills in a museum aren't that great with an Iphone.

My favorite items displayed were Bowie's handwritten lyrics and notes, sketches of album designs or stage sets.  And then the costumes all on display looking fabulous.

Driving in and out of Brooklyn and parking the car was not much fun.  The stress was high!  Maybe my husband and I took turns yelling at the GPS as well.

I love living in a small town without traffic.

How was your weekend?

  2. Fun to see and hear about David Bowie!!! I love your photos. We have a friend staying over tonight. I adore her. She is a high school buddy and her mom is in a nearby nursing home . I made her a great dinner I must say. My own Chicken marsala which she devoured! It was fun to cook while she sat and drank red wine and chatted it up with me. I love her.

  4. Sounds like a great weekend ! Mine was good too, we still had warm and sunny weather here. Yesterday I went to see my brother and his family ( who live in the same city ), we went to the park and before that, my 6 year old niece had me do a little scouting expedition. She had drawn some arrows on the street and got me to do some small assignments, such as standing on one leg with my arms spread out. It was so much fun, especially seeing her enthusiasm !

  10. Would you believe that our daughter and son-in-law live in Newark Delaware and that she works in Wilmington? This world gets smaller and smaller all the time. :-)

  11. Karen, your daughter looks so much like you! ; ) Beautiful! What a great weekend you had. I can't believe you were in my old stomping grounds - I love the Brooklyn Museum and didn't live very far from it the year we lived in Windsor Terrace. As for getting in and out of Brooklyn, yes, it's a nightmare! I visited Mary on Friday and it took me three hours to get home. Ugh! Have a lovely week! xx

  13. The river walk in Wilmington looks lovely and time with your daughter is so nice. We puttered around home this weekend. I ran some errands on Saturday and then made up a mac and cheese and vegetable casserole. Church and coffee on Sunday, then a walk and some knitting. The simple but wonderful life for sure.

  17. I'm always annoyed when I visit towns with more traffic than my small town also - it's so easy to get frustrated or lost.
Looks like a fullfilling weekend - that David Bowie exhibit is definitely worth a trip!
