Weekends

Saturday morning found me driving to my daughter's apartment to do a computer swap.  Her six month old computer was acting weird and she needs a functioning computer for note taking and for final exams at law school.  I enjoyed a beautiful drive soaking in the autumn countryside while listening to a few podcasts.  We swapped computers (gave her my husband's) and then proceeded to have a lovely lunch and a bit of shopping.

As you might have guessed, the computer isn't acting weird here.  But it has a wellness appointment at a local computer repair shop-fingers crossed they find something!  This reminds me of the days of when my children would be sick and while at the doctor's appointment, their fever would break, or their cough would disappear.  How awful to wish your child would show any sign of illness to prove to the doctor that something, anything was wrong to make the appointment viable.

Once I was home from the computer swap, I enjoyed a delicious curry dinner made by my husband.  Different recipe for a chicken and mushroom curry and a lentil dahl.  His stand by recipes will always be my favorites because those are the flavor memories I measure new ones.  I know it's a little weird.

We are closing in on the big "cut the cord" event. The first week of November our two year contract is complete with the satellite company.  I don't know about you, but I'm getting a little tired of two year contracts.  Lately the phone contract irked me so maybe that will be one that gets axed or tweaked.  I'm on a roll for saving money.

How was your weekend?

  1. Ah yes, the mysterious disappearance of symptoms at the doctor - sounds so very familiar. ;-) Your dinner sounds delicious, and the fact that hubby made it, makes it even better.

  2. Computers can be so frustrating. I'm so glad my hubby has some knowledge or I would be in big trouble. I need to call my cable company and renew our contract - it ran out and they are charging a crazy amount of money. I'm all about the saving lately too.

  3. Hi, just happened across your blog. I'm in Scotland, lecturer, writer, musician and home educating four daughters. I love all those leaves on your masthead - that's exactly what I'm seeing out of my window right now.

  4. It was a busy weekend for us. Halloween parties and visits with family. I need another Sunday! Thanks for the mention about the curry. I've been longing for curry and I have a terrific recipe for a chicken curry pot pie. It seems perfect for these cooler days.

  8. I've become so frustrated by doctor trips and disappearing symptoms with the kids that I often whip out my phone and take a quick video clip at home that I then insist my doctor watches at the appointment! I'm sure they love to see our last name on the appointment schedule ;) lol.

Curry sounds delightful right now. I may have to do some menu tweaking! Happy Monday to you!

  9. Oh, I hope they figure out what's wrong with your daughters computer--that is so frustrating. One of my kids wheezed at night, but of course, since we visited our doctor during the day, he didn't hear it . . . arrgh!

You are so lucky to have a husband who cooks. : )

And, yes, I'm with you about those two year contacts--bah! I'm trying to cut costs these days, too. It seems like everyone is.

  10. Praying that your daughter's computer will give a bit of a hint to what the problem is when it goes in for its wellness visit. And I love how you measure other recipes by the memories of the dishes that your husband makes. We had occasion here a couple of years ago that my husband did the cooking for three weeks while I was recovering from a fall. He has a way with food preparation that just makes my mouth water. Regardless of what he put in front of me it was delicious.

We had a weekend of recovering from headaches/intestinal junk type "bug". We enjoyed the beautiful sunshine though. :-) Sunshine is ALWAYS a PLUS.

  11. Good luck cutting the cord. We have been without any tv but netflix for years and LOVE it that way... now the phone... I'm not sure I want/could do without that one...

  12. Yay for cutting the cord, so wish my hubby was up for that challenge, the monthly savings would do wonders for our budget :) Hope the computer troubles get sorted out soon.

  13. That reminded me of the time we took Kaya to A&E with a really high fever - he'd been all floppy, until we were in the waiting room, and he met another little boy - and the two of them proceeded to run around the corridors whooping. My husband suggested we sneak out the back, because it was a bit embarrasing ;)

  16. Nice to have an excuse to see your daughter. Hannah was home for a long weekend...we're taking her back to London tonight. I like the sound of the lentil dahl I love anything with lentils, especially if it's spicy.

  17. Ha...usually one of our kids hurts their leg and can't walk until they get past registration at the ER and then there is a miracle! Got to love that!
