This weekend was perfect.  We did daily walks in our neighborhood and the fall foliage is at its peak, I love it. Along with fall are fall allergies which I am not a fan of but there is always a price for happiness.  A frost would be nice, don't you think? I did a lot of reading and finished a memoir, Hunger , by Roxane Gay. It was sad and heartbreaking but a compelling read. I will definitely read more of her essays and books. I worked feverishly on my sister's black (black!!!) sweater. Golly, I wish I had the eyesight of a 20 year old. However, I finished the second sleeve and after all the pesky pick up stitches around the band that I hope will be completed sometime today, I will be sailing into easy 2 x 2 ribbing. How was your weekend?

Another weekend has come and gone once again.  This past weekend my favorite (only) sister and brother in law come for a visit.  We had great fun!  Friday night we had dinner at home then my sister and I went out to do a bit of shopping.  Once home we relaxed.  I did my knitting and she did her crocheting.  Saturday morning we all headed out for a neighboring town's street festival.  I found some gifts to give for family and enjoyed strolling about looking at the creative pursuits of other people.  There were quite a few wood turners, pottery, and jewelry.  We did not eat any of the food but headed back home for lunch. My sister and I spent the afternoon painting having the best time ever.  I am tentative and cautious in my watercoloring and she is bold and adventurous.  We made a big mess! The above picture is a collaborative effort.  She did the watercoloring and said it needed something, so I took a pen and inked away.  My sister gave me a wee little fram

This was a good weekend in so many ways.  Last weekend we were traveling, this weekend was a stay-at-home-do-nothing weekend.  But I did lots.  Yesterday, I worked on my second 'neutral' cowl out of three.  I don't think I have enough yarn for four, but you never know.  After I sang the praises of knitting the same thing over and over again, I'm starting to feel a little bit like I'm ready for something else.  So I went on Ravelry and spent ages looking at patterns.  I'm specifically interested in using up scrap worsted weight wool. Holly the cat in the SAFE zone but being a nosy little cat. Today I rearranged my wools, mostly the DK and worsted weight.  I have a lot of both, yet not enough in certain colors.  After blissfully perusing my stash, I made a list of order of importance for knitting the rest of the gifts.  I still have a lot of knitting to do, good thing I'm into knitting for others this season. Hello!  I was gone again for the weekend.  If you know me well, you know that I am exhausted from two weekends in a row with traveling.  This time we went to celebrate my dad's birthday (Happy Birthday Dad!). We spent the day at his house for the afternoon in northern western Pennsylvania.  I walked about trying out all of my lenses with the Nikon.  I have a zoom lenses that is manually focused and apparently I need the auto function.  Oh well, the learning curve is always biggest when you begin something new. We had a delicious dinner together where everyone brought a dish to share.  My dad cooked chicken on the open fire after a long marinating brine (I think that is what he said).  babies! After saying our goodbyes once the festivities ended,  my husband and I spent Friday and Saturday night at my sister and brother in law's house.  Saturday, my sister and I shopped all morning long and had a lunch out.  My sister hosted the next dinner with more family co

Get ready, this post has a ton of photos, well ten photos.  However I took so many with my phone!  I'm trying to remember to take photos while having fun.  How was your weekend?  Mine was fantastic, we went to Cambridge to see our son this weekend and had such a good time. The ride up wasn't great - we hit the awful traffic of Connecticut.  While my back is slowing improving, riding in a car causes me pain that Tylenol barely touches.  (Remember, sitting is the hardest activity for me while I heal up).  used book store Friday night we were in Central Square and toodled about shopping and eating and talking.  Saturday morning was the BIG day.  We were all over the place.  After a subway ride into downtown Boston, we shopped a bit and ate at Quincy Market for lunch.  me trying not to squint.... my husband cannot walk and look at his phone at the same time We went to the aquarium and had a fun time, penguins were my favorite - runner up was the jellyfish an

What a spectacular weekend!  The weather was perfectly perfect.  Especially Saturday, the high was about 77 degrees with low humidity.  Why can't it stay that way?  I guess those days are golden and special.  We took a walk with Frodo, who hasn't been out on a walk for quite a while because of the high heat and humidity from the previous weeks.  He loved smelling the smells and seeing the neighborhood.  So did we, well seeing the neighborhood.  We walked down the dirt road (it's paved now but the name 'dirt road' still sticks).  The day lilies are abundant and in full bloom. I am --almost-- healed up.  On Friday, I asked the trainer to resume the kick boxing moves that we started a few weeks ago.  If this is what it takes to make my back stronger I am all for it.  Honestly, I hate to admit it but the sitting is what ruins my back.  How sad.  We probably need a new sofa set but I really don't feel like shopping for that at all.  clean!  kitchen!!

I had another stay-at-home-do-nothing weekend and it was wonderful.  I spent all day Saturday finishing my book, A Beautiful Mystery , by Louise Penny.  She is such a fabulous mystery writer in that she hooks me into wanting to read the next book in the series.  It's up and ready on my Kindle. I skillfully snagged up her books on Kindle when they were on sale throughout a one year span.  I frequently check back on certain authors to see if I need  any more at a great price.  Are there any other mystery series you like that you would recommend?  We did attend Saturday evening Mass and did the pizza run like last weekend.  We've been watching The Americans on Amazon Prime.  I like to have my knitting in my lap so I can look down when it gets suspenseful or violent. Did you notice anything different in my photos?  I have put away all the yarn on display - poor Holly doesn't have yarn to steal - but don't despair!  I am planning on knitting her some toys to pl

Our daughter and son in law were here over night for a dear family friend wedding.  Our daughters were friends through middle school and high school.  Once the kids grew up, we continued to be friends through out the years.  The wedding was my first outdoor wedding!  All week the news station called for rain and by a miracle, the weather was picture perfect.  peace! I ate, I danced, I celebrated and had a ton of fun.  I'm exhausted!  I must say it's more fun to attend a wedding than to plan a wedding :) another selfie gone awry My family left this afternoon and I'm doing all those pesky chores:  dishes and laundry!
