Yarn Along

My knitting has not changed that much from week to week but I am going to blame it on big knitting projects, I can do that right?  On the far left is my featherweight cardigan which I just blogged about here yesterday.  I am on sleeve one and it is zipping along compared to the body.  On the far right is a top down vee neck sweater for my husband that I have named Lincoln Green sweater.  It too is making a little progress week by week.  I am still doing the raglan shaping.  Now since I am swimming in a sea of green yarn I decided to cast on a pair of leg warmers for my daughter for Christmas.  Some of you know that I am a die hard fan of double pointed needles (dpns).  However since the leg warmers are straight knitting with no heel flap I thought I would try an itty bitty circular needle........I will let you know how it goes.  I am definitely not knitting as fast as usual, but I assume there is a learning curve for my hands to adjust to the size of the needle (they are size 2 by the way).

My reading is the same, surprise surprise.  The only way I can read a book fast is if I read during the day and obviously I find many other things of interest to do.  So I only read right before bed time and I usually fall asleep within the hour.  The Distant Hours is an excellent book and I am already giving it a five star review before finishing.  It is so good I think any ending would be a good one!  I am nearly done and I love the characters and the description of the scenery--can I live in a castle, please?

On a side note, I am interested to see if and when my daughter reads this blog and discovers her Christmas present... heh, heh, heh......

  1. Looks like you're making progress :) We shall indeed be each other's cheerleaders, I could do with one!

Hmmmm, not that I need another project (at all!) but legwarmers sound like an excellent idea. Loving the orange yarn - of course, because I love orange ;)

  2. I agree big projects make progress seem slow. They look great :) I've been thinking about leg warmers too (for me.) But my dad's scarf is on my short circulars... maybe I'll have to try the dpns and get it going anyway ;-)

  3. Now you have me wanting to cast on a pair of orange legwarmers!;) I have a size 2 circular needle and it is just so tiny. I know you'll get the hang of it quickly. xx

  4. Your colors are so seasonally fall-ish!!! I've never knit legwarmers--or used one of those tiny (9" ??) circulars (although, being the gadget-y kind of gal I am--I own one!!). I'll be real anxious to hear how it works.
I know what you mean about that book--I just never wanted it to end.

  6. The thing that popped into my mind when I saw your picture today was "Oooooo! Pumpkins"

  7. The cardigans and leg warmers look great! I love the orange. You are right about the learning curve for the small circulars. You will get it!

  8. I too thought pumpkins as soon as the photo loaded. Such lovely shades of autumn. And yes, it's always a good idea to throw in a few smaller projects amongst the bigger ones, if only to have something to yarn along with ;)

Editing to add - word verification.....enduring?? LOL

  9. I just knit a cowl on small circulars, as opposed to dpns. I definitely prefer dpns, too, but I guess it was a good experience. :)

  10. You always have such beautiful knits! Love the cardigans and those orange leg warmers. Oh boy...size 2 needles are not my favorite. I hope your fingers get used to them soon.

  11. i love the the yummy colors together karen, everything is going to be so beautiful. i love dpns too, and i've used one of those short needles, but ended up giving it away. for me it felt too much of struggle knitting, the thing just never wanted to bend that much. i hope you do not have that problem. i giggled at your comment about your daughter, i never know when mine reads either. :)

  12. You are always so busy. Wow, those leg warmers are very bright. Does your daughter read your blog often? I'm not sure (at this point) if I could get away with that.

  13. I've been switching between 9s and 4s and my hands protested yesterday afternoon when knitting!

I love the Lincoln Green name for the sweater. I'm going through a green phase right now so it all looks wonderful including the legwarmers!).

  14. I'll have to add this Kate Morton book to my list. I enjoyed The Forgotten Garden a lot. And, wow you have a lot of knitting going on! I love the orange you chose for the leg warmers. Hope you get the hang of those little circulars soon.

  17. I love that orange yarn! Also, I'm interested in how you like the itty-bitty circular needles. I am not a fan of DPNs, but I also am not entirely jazzed with the tiny circs. I think I need to just get used to both of them instead of deciding I don't like one or the other & avoiding them entirely… xo

  18. Loving all your colours I usually prefer circs to dpns, but haven't tried a tiny one yet. My children read my blog, but never comment. It has become a bit of a family joke now that the only way they find out anything is if they read it on the blog.

  20. karen! have you finished the book yet? it was a smashing ending. i usually don't read that much during the day either, but had a cold last week that kept me on the couch. the book was so good it definitely kept me from some of my mothering duties. i haven't read a page of a book since finishing it last week. enjoy the ending if you haven't already!
