Yarn Along

I sometimes buy books just for their cover art.  This book, The Orchid House, is one of those times.  I loved the dress and the pose.  So far it's an interesting read, not spectacular, but good enough to keep on reading.  I am at a part where there is flash back to the 1930's, so it's picked up a bit for me.  I finished The Lace Reader and would recommend it if you like to be confused on what is going on.  I liked it.  I also liked the first and third person narration.  I figured out the mystery but still enjoyed the ending.

My knitting has mainly been this citron shawl.  I have been knitting it exclusively this week.  See that blue on the right--I have been knitting like a demon so I can see blue in my shawl.  I honestly cannot recall why I bought this yarn.  I have looked at it in my stash and thought it was not very pretty.  I was so wrong!  The color changes are wonderful and seamless.  They happen so gradually.  I also love the wispy-ness of the shawl.  Perfect portability!

  1. I bought a book purely due to an attractive cover and delightful title a few weeks ago... and I'm going to suggest it for my book group next month (I may live to regret this!)

Your shawl is lovely! The colors are gorgeous. And that's pretty much how I felt with the yarn for my shawl - I'm just amazed the way it's coming out (colorwise.)

  4. I totally do that too Karen..I get seduced by the art work or photograph on the cover! I'm learning though and now always read the first page too.

Your shawl is so delicate I love the transparent texture...and I love the blue wool with the greeenish tinge I can't wait to see the finished shawl.

    Happy knitting,
    Deb

  5. The color changes are beautiful. What a delight after thinking it was a blah skein. The color repeats also seem to spur me on to more knitting to see how it progresses.

  6. I love the descriptive words you use to describe your knitting, they are point on Karen. Wispy? Oh yes! Stunning too!
I love cover art and will leave a book on the shelve if it's not appealing. Your book looks like a piece of art.

  12. The shawl looks great, Karen, and I'm glad that you've rediscovered your enthusiasm for the yarn. I have many skeins and balls of yarn that I wonder what possessed me to buy them. And the read a book for the cover art? I do that too.

  18. Once upon a time when I was young and reckless, I practically lived at Barnes and Noble. They had a bargain books section and I would often buy books for under $5 based soley on their appearance. And you know what? I had spectacular luck with that. In fact, I discovered one of my now favorite authors that way. (:

  32. Very pretty yarn! I have some like that, but I can't seem to find the right pattern. I've completely bought books for the cover art, and reject books for bad cover art. It's silly, but it makes a difference.

  33. You are right...that yarn is just gorgeous. The colors are so soft -- like cotton candy. Yum!
