Yarn Along

I have a very big announcement.....I am on the ribbing of my cardigan!  Every day I try to work on this cardigan.  I have grand visions of what it will be like when it is done.  But it's taking forever to knit.  So getting to the ribbing is such an accomplishment.  I'm thinking about four inches of ribbing should do it.  All that's left are sleeves and the button bands.  I hope that I will have this cardigan done before the summer ends.

My hat is very near the stockinette section of the pattern.  This is the project that I've been knitting while reading at the same time.  The yarn is wool so I don't have to worry about stitches slipping off (like the cardigan).  My sister in law can knit so fast while reading and she was the one years and years ago that inspired me to practice. I cannot knit a complicated pattern.  Just ribbing or plain knitting.

I finished The Weird Sisters and overall a nice enjoyable read.  I did not like all the Shakespeare quotes thrown into the story line. But once the story line was established and I was eagerly reading to see what was going to happen to each sister, the quotes did not stand out and detract from the book (for me).  I'm a big fan of family dynamics and will always pick up that type of book.  It's like peeking into someone's living room window :)

I started I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith.  It is one of J. K. Rowling's favorite books.  My daughter read the book and did not like it.  However, she said that I would love it.  So I'm reading it.  We tend to have opposite tastes in books so I'm interested to see if I love it!

  1. Okay Karen, once again you have awed me with your talent. I already think whatever you knit is drop dead beautiful, but you're reading while knitting it? Geesh Girl, that is amazing! How to you keep the book open and hold knitting at the same time?
I have found that you and I have very similar reading taste so will have to look for I Capture the Castle.

  4. Reading while knitting, that is impressive. How do you hold the book!? I have tried reading and knitting, but only when it is on my nook, then I don't have to worry about turning pages or holding it. I love the colors of your projects! Beautiful!

  5. I felt the same about Weird Sisters. I liked it well enough, but found it a bit predictable. Love that you can read and knit. I only just figured it out and I am oh so pleased to be perfecting the skill. Woo Hoo for the body of the card to be finished. Will you knit both sleeves at once? Hope they are quick too.

  6. It certainly is delightful when you can read and knit at the same time-way to go! Both your projects are delightful! I have noticed that ribbing tends to take up a chuck on knitting time. I find it helps to that portion in the car (that and sleeves!). I, too, am a fan of reading fictional stories of family dynamics. I will have to look for your book on my next trip to the library. Happy knitting.

  7. I must try reading and knitting at the same time, I sometimes walk and knit but haven't read and knit yet, that would actually be wonderful!

The colour of your sweater is so beautiful and looks very soft too, I am sure you are going to really enjoy wearing it.

  11. It's coming along awesome!!! I can't believe you're at the ribbing already! That's something that I probably would take years to get to! The hat is beautiful too. I'll have to try knitting & reading. Although not with the book I'm reading now as it's making me cry so I'm sure dropped stitches would follow!

  14. Sometimes I listen to books on tape when I'm crocheting but then I get dozey and want to take a nap. :) Awesome progress on both your projects ~ you really ARE inspiring me to get started knitting...well, besides the washcloths I've been working on for a few months. Happy Wednesday!

  15. So glad for you about the cardigan! It's coming along beautifully. I can't really read and knit either. That would spell disaster for my knitting project! I can kind of watch a DVD though, but still need to pay attention to what I am doing. Jacinta

  16. Lovely colors! So happy you are on your way to a great finish! I so wish I could knit and read at the same time. I could get a lot more read that way! :) I also read The Weird Sisters and liked it except for all the Shakespeares quotes as well. It got to be a bit confusing at times...but all in all it was a fun read!

  17. Excited to see your cardigan finished. The colors are so pretty, and so is the hat. I'm thinking of frogging a hat I'm almost done with to knit on smaller needles.

  18. Slow and steady wins the race. I hate when projects take a long time. But you will find it so rewarding at the end!

  19. How do you read and knit at the same time? I can watch TV and knit as long as I don't have a complicated pattern to work with.

  23. The yarn looks incredible, and I have never tried reading and knitting, but that actually sounds like a fun combination (although I have enough trouble keeping my head straight with just the knitting alone :)).

  24. Woo hoo! That book is on my self-imposed summer reading list. I'm curious to see how you life it.

I saw a movie based upon the book and that got me interested in it.

  34. Love the colors of your cardigan. Your sister-in-law must be a turbo-knitter, because I happen to think you are pretty fast! Churning out all these lovely projects like you do! Happen week to you :)

  35. i bet you finish even sooner! how exciting to have such a lovely new sweater soon. reading and knitting is great to learn, if you don't have to look at your needles it makes it possible to knit while on road trips at night and even in the movie theather. i can only do this with ss stitch, but i am saved from some of the movies my husband loves to see! :)

  36. Oh, I just love reading author's favorite books. I'll certainly have to check that out.

  37. I capture the castle is one of my favourite books...I just love the opening passage and Mortmain reminds me a bit of my dad...

  38. I wish I could knit as quickly and competently as you do. Knit while reading - HA! That would be a problem...I can't walk and chew gum at the same time....half the time I can't walk....ahem ;)

  39. The colours are all so lovely - can't wait to see the finished cardi!
