Yarn Along

My featherweight cardigan is making steady progress.  I finished the ribbing and started with the button bands.  I'm leaving the sleeves last because I only have 1100 yards.  I wanted to make the button band as wide to my liking so sleeve length has been compromised if I am running short.  I'm at peace with my decision.  My focus has been this cardigan and I want to finish it soon.  Until I do-no more new projects. (I just said that with my fingers crossed, ha ha).

My other knitted project is a pair of socks for my husband in that lovely shade of gray!  I have been doing a sock knitting tutorial here here and here!  I love making socks cuff down and if you do as well check out the tutorials.

This week I am reading I Capture the Castle and it's a nice comfortable read.  It's about a girl and her journal and her documenting her life in the country-my daughter is correct, I do like reading it.  I'm enjoying the journal format of the book and the descriptive countryside.

A little housekeeping note:  I have changed my domain name to pumpkinsunrise.com.  All of the redirects are supposed to be automatic but just thought I would bring it to your attention if you needed to know.

  1. That is a lovely shade of grey! I can never knit enough grey! I Capture the Castle sounds very interesting. Your cardigan is coming along swiftly. And I do love that color. How will you be doing the sleeves--2 at a time, maybe magic loop??

  4. Oh still reading one of my favourite books...I Capture the Castle is such a nice gentle book...I must look it out again.

I had no problems coming over from Ginny's so it seems the change has worked ok.

Love the socks..I'm really into grey at the moment.

    Have a happy July 4th.

  7. I haven't read this book before, and I think I definitely want to pick it up. I love journal format, it seems so personal (obviously :-)). And the yarn colors are lovely. I especially like the featherweight cardigan. It looks beautiful!

  8. So excited to see both finished. I completely understand crossing fingers. One top down sock inquiry - how do you utilize most of your yarn. I hate having bits of it left, so I lean toward toe up and making the leg as long as I like or using all the yarn.

    1. I sort of guess. I know that 200 yards for a one man's foot (8 1/2 inches for leg and cuff, and 8 1/2 inches for edge of heel to toe shaping) leaves me with left overs. I use the left overs in scrappy hats or Christmas ornaments. It is a negative to cuff down.

  12. I can't compromise on my sleeves. If they're too short I just won't wear it. Of course, if the body isn't long enough I won't wear it, either. I'm intensely picky about my cardigans, I guess. (:

  13. I continue to be blown away by the fact that people make entire sweaters out of lace-weight yarn. I don't think I would have the patience... It looks so lovely, though. xo

  20. isn't it great when others know our taste so well they can make great recommendations? i find it funny that you said your daughter didn't like the book and that's why you'd probably like it. it's just like when i have my sister or husband taste something for me to tell me if i'd like it or not. they're usually right and i love that!

by the way, the redirect to the new domain worked fine!

  22. Your cardigan looks so pretty Karen and I am loving the sock tutorial. I wish we lived closer so we could sit on the porch knitting and chatting. You have so much knitting wisdom that I would love to learn. I hope you are having a great 4th and thanks for the book recommendation, I will have to order a copy to read.

  24. I loved 'I capture the castle.' Apparently it is also a film?

Your socks are looking great and I love the grey. Thanks for the sock making posts, they have been book marked! I am making my first pair of socks right now and I'm currently knitting the heel flap. Looking at your photos has made the next steps easier to understand. I will be using your math in the future I believe! :)

  26. I so laughed at the "no new projects" and "fingers crossed." More self imposed goals. I'm so terrible at those when it comes to knitting/crocheting. Can't wait to see the finished projects and what you start next ;)

  27. Well I can't say I blame you for crossing your fingers... after all, what if you find the perfect project? ;) That being said, these two look lovely :)
