Yarn Along

There has been an explosion of casting on new projects and it's been so enjoyable.  I finished my brown citron shawl and quickly started two more projects.  The green yarn in the photo is a pair of socks and I'm using my pattern lucky for me this will be easy since I've knit it once before. My other project in the photo above is a cowl that I am designing.  It's in the early stages so I haven't a ravelry page as of yet.  I love the yarn!  It's socks that rock in medium weight by Blue Moon Fiber Arts, it was a gift from one of my knitting friends :)

My pink cardigan is making progress and it is not in the photo.  I just separated the sleeves off the needles and have started the body.  Even though it is all stockinette stitch there is no boredom with some pleats to create and a little bit of waist shaping.  Perfect combination.

As you can see by where the bookmark is, I am slowing reading The Flight of Gemma Hardy.  It's quite good-I am a night time reader which means I fall asleep eventually.  I love how it mirrors Jane Eyre but with an updated time period.  Gemma is still at a rotten school and her best friend just died.  The writing is beautiful and I love the comfortableness of a favorite classic.

What are you knitting and reading?

I also wrote a guest post at Mad Passions blog about why I knit.

  1. I just read your guest post Karen and really enjoyed learning more about you. I love that you taught yourself to knit as a teenager. Does your sister have the same knitting passion as you?
I am looking forward to seeing your new cowl pattern. I really do love the other cowl you designed and have plans to knit a few for Christmas gifts.

    1. My sister loves to knit and she loves to sew. That means I knit way more than she does because she is splitting her attention :D

  4. Ooh, I love the yarn for your new cowl design! I continue to be intrigued by that book . . . I have a lot of Jane Eyre-loving friends: that might need to go on the list of possibilities for Christmas gifts.

  5. The yarn for the cowl looks fun - a definite brightener to a chilly day. No update from me this week. We are venturing forth today for our next adventure. However I have the doll almost done - just needs legs. And she is cute.

  8. You pick out the prettiest yarns!! I've been so very lazy the past few days & haven't been knitting much nor did I take a picture of my yarn related stuff so no yarn along post this morning for me. Maybe later on this afternoon. But it will be boring! :-)

  11. What a great blog post! Isn't it funny how when a project doesn't turn out how we want, we take a "knitting break"? And I couldn't agree more about knitting being a great thing to do while waiting.

STR is my favorite sock yarn. I think it will make a lovely cowl.

  16. I read your post on Mad Passions, interesting to read your knitting story! I too not only knit for the actual product, but as a therapy to keep the stress and worrying at bay. I completely understand-and I think a lot of people would say the same thing.
I was reading a while back about a young men's home, for young men (youth, really) with criminal pasts, severe ADHD, and mental illnesses, where they actually used crochet and knitting as a way to cope.
Theses boys found it so helpful to be able to channel life's stress into their work. And they made beautiful items for babies in hospitals-hats, sweaters, socks, which in turn gave them some good to focus on, and self worth.
Funny what something as simple as stitches, knots and string can bring.

I love your new yarn, I'm eager to see your cowl!

    1. The colorway is called "the fold" and I think it might be discontinued. My friend bought it as a mill end up in Rhinebeck last year--lucky me :)
