Yarn Along

I continue to make slow but significant progress on my barnacle sweater.  In one or two inches I will be starting the lace edging.  I hope I have enough yarn!  I did buy the recommended amount but I would love to make the body a tiny bit longer since I'm on the tall side of life.  Right now I'm not overly concerned but when I knit it's in on my mind.  Fingers crossed!  I have romantic notions of working on the sleeves which should go quickly since there's less stitches.  One can dream.

I finished The Snow Child and really enjoyed it.  I loved all the snow talk and the story is compelling.  I expect that this first time novelist has some more stories to publish and I will be reading them.  If you haven't flipped through the book you should and maybe read it before spring arrives.  My son insists that I read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.  He's read it at least twice and I think it's one of his favorite books.  I only just started it last night so I will have some opinions next week.

By the way, it's SNOWING!!
What are you knitting and reading this week?

  2. Snow here, as well! Two hour delay, though, and this teacher was hoping for a snow day. :-( Oh well. I'm adding The Snow Child to my to read list on Goodreads - thank you! And I agree with your son, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is an amazing book.

I love your knitting project! I hope to do a "Yarn Along" post later tonight when I get home from work! Have a great day!

  5. Karen, I was worried about running out of yarn too and ended up ordering another skein just to be safe, I didn't need it, but it's here if you do so let me know. I'll check the dye lot number and send you an email later today.

Enjoy the snow, I really am envious...we are going to be 78 degrees today..that is just wrong!

  6. Right now I think I would rather have snow than the rain we've been having. If it keeps raining like that, we'll have to built and ark... I can't wait to see the finished sweater! :-)

  10. I"m putting Snow Child on my list of books to order at the library. I've seen the Curious Incident on the table at B&N, and have wondered about it. Sounds like it is a good book from the other comments. I'm anxious to know what you think of it.

  11. It is not snowing here, we might be about done with snow for the season. I'm also enjoying The Snow Child and looking forward to more books by her!

  12. Snowy here too! The curious incident is quite something, a real insight into a different type of mind.

  13. Oh! You have snow?!?! I'm so jealous!

  15. Kaya is running to the window every morning in high expectation, but only frost here so far!
I loved The Curious Incident; I read it a few years back, when I was working with young people with special needs.

  16. I enjoyed the curious incident- I read it years ago, but remember liking it.

  17. I have seen this book appear so many times around the blogsphere. Did you enjoy it? We don't have any snow here - perhaps the book will make me think it is actually winter!

  18. LOVE the color of your new sweater! We had a little snow here, more inland than on the island. But enough (in my mind) to justify hunkering down, reading and sewing. So much so that I am going to order The Snow Child for the nook rather than go to library :) (just ditched my current read...it was annoying me!) Happy Day! ~ Paula

  20. Your sweater looks wonderful - I often find myself worrying about such things (and I find I have to adjust things for my height, too!). Sometimes I go weigh the yarn I've got left to make a more accurate calculation.
It's snowing here, too, so I'm so pleased to have my heating and hot water back today!

  21. Karen, your knitting is always so perfectly inspiring! And I love the frosty photos on your header. Lots of snow here too, and a bit more forecast, so snowmen and knitting may be happening. x

  22. I *loved* 'The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night-time.' My brother made me read it & I sat up until 3 in the morning reading it all in one sitting. (This was when I had only Julia; I don't think I could do that now…too many people demanding I get up at a decent hour…)

I love your sweater. It always amazes me how you manage to knit so much with such fine yarn… xo

  23. Great color. Very understated and earthy, just what I love. And I must say that I had never thought of a barnacle as beautiful but this yarn has changed my opinion. :)

  25. I wish it would snow here, Karen! The children keep wishing and hoping, and I do too :-) I still haven't finished The Snow Child but I am loving it although most of my me time is taken up knitting and making hares I haven't got (enough) time to read.

Have a lovely end of week and I'll keep my fingers crossed you have enough yarn!

  26. i have to knit sweaters long too because of height. not a big fan of baring my skin ;-)

  27. We got three inches of snow where I live in Connecticut. Is it wrong that I was looking forward to it because then I could add some white to my 2013 in Yarn blanket?!

Anywho, both books sound really promising. I'll have to check them out.

  28. Snowing!??!! How wonderful! Dreary drizzly day over here. I'm thinking we will get zero snow this winter and my boys are so disappointed.

  29. Snowing, you are so lucky. We have none left, but hoping more comes soon. I so love the colour grey you are knitting with, there is something about grey I really love. Fingers crossed you have enough yarn :)

  30. Pretty sweater, at least when you're doing the sleeves you're almost done.
    Enjoy your snow.

  31. How I miss the snow. Enjoyed the spring like weather earlier in the week. Don't know if I'll ever work on a project like yours, but I enjoy watching you and the finished project.

  32. Your sweater is lovely and the color rich. snow child is on my reading list too.

  33. Your sweater is going to be so nice and cozy when it's done. It snowed here today but quickly turned to rain. Bleh!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Can't wait to see your finished sweater!! I read the Curious Incident a few years back and if I remember correctly, thought it was a good read! I hope you're enjoy it as the week progresses!

  35. So, if you are gifted in the height department, does that mean you also have long arms? I too am vertically gifted, but I have monkey arms. I know sleeves for me will take a long time :). I put Snow Child on hold at our library. It sounds good even if we don't get snow here. I can live vicariously

  36. snow! exciting! i think the snow child is one i'll reread once a year, it's one of my favorite books. i read the curious incident many years ago while visiting german friends in frankfurt. they wanted me to read it, and had left it on my bedside table. it's so interesting how certaing books speak to us in different ways.
love your sweater karen, good luck on the yarn amount!

  37. Snowing?! You're so fortunate!
What you're making looks pretty complicated with all these stitch markers! But having seen what you can whip up I know it'll look gorgeous no matter how difficult the pattern!

  38. Snow! Along with a book about snow! Wonderful! I've heard interesting things about Dog in the Nighttime... Let us know what you think, ok?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Just finishing the snow child, as the snow arrives!

Fingers crossed the yarn holds out :)

  40. My daughter encourage me to read The Curious Incident of the Dog in The Night time too. There was a lot of attention given to it when it came out here as the author is local. It's started snowing here again today too...my husband it hoping we'll get snowed in so he won't have to go to work tomorrow.

I'm reading the Life of Pi before we see the film and still knitting socks...like you, slow but sure...
    Have a great weekend.
