Home

It will not come as a surprise that I love to be home.  This is the place that I feel most centered.  After our trip last weekend to Pittsburgh, we are settling down into our slow easy days.  After dinner, I quickly do the dishes so we can take a walk with Frodo and enjoy the mild weather.  The scenery is changing quickly and soon the clocks will be set back an hour and it'll be too dark for an after dinner walk.

This week has seen a shift in our meals, summer meals are switching to fall comfort meals.  I made eggplant parmesan for the first time.  My husband hasn't stopped singing eggplant praises.  I said that if you dredge any vegetable in bread crumbs and fry it up it would taste good.  He said nope.  Carrots would still taste like carrots (he doesn't like cooked carrots only raw or roasted).  I guess he had a point.  The other under-loved vegetable, turnips, has been chopped and carefully roasted with potatoes, delicious.

It seems that the rabbits are hibernating and have stopped torturing Frodo.  Now Frodo goes outside to sunbathe and relaxes in the grass.  Yesterday I went out to join him, sometimes animals know a good thing and we humans must follow.   For ten minutes I stopped doing chores and sat and listened to the world.

Have a lovely weekend and I hope you get to be outside to listen to the world!!

  1. I love being at home, too. This weekend I'd like a chance to drive up one of our canyons and see the changing colors.

  2. I'm a homebody, too. :-) According to our weather forecast, if I want to be outside this weekend (Saturday at least) I'm going to get soaked. :-( Not good for the plans we had, but what can you do...

  4. I feel exactly the same way about my home. I've decided that I should show more appreciation and not take it for granted, so there may be some fall cleaning today, followed by a walk with my camera.

  7. There's no place like home--and, I'm a homebody, too. : )

I didn't know this until a couple of years ago when we were learning about rabbits, but they do not hibernate. They continue to forage all winter, although they generally conserve energy on the coldest days and stay bedded down. We see them more in the spring and summer because they are out looking for mates. Also, as the grass becomes winter-brown, eastern cottontails blend right into the environment.

    Have a wonderful weekend. ♥

  8. I had to giggle about the eggplant comment! We are having an amazingly sunny warm few days as we move into autumn this weekend so hope to have some moments like yours. We're off to London tonight for family gatherings and birthdays. I'll take my knitting and reading but am looking forward to coming home Sunday...there's nothing like your own little space.
    Enjoy your weekend Karen.

  9. The shift is on here too. I LOVE the eggplant parmesan idea..but I order it when we are out. I've made it lousy too many times. There is a frozen brand that is actually wonderful. I must put that on the list

  13. We are transitioning our tastebuds as well. I made butternut squash soup last week, mashed potatoes yesterday. Tonight I am making tacos and my daughter commented that we hadn't eaten them all summer -- they are more of a winter staple in our house. I won't give up night walks with my Bebe. Instead we take a flashlight along.

  14. I am a homebody too and there have been times when it's weeks before I travel to town.

I had to smile, I don't like cooked carrots or turnips either, Mike likes turnips right from the ground!

    Have a great weekend.

  15. Home is the best! I'm glad you listened to your pup, they are wise beyond our knowing. Mostly about sunshine and naps and cuddles, but those are the best things in life!

  16. ....ah yes, home is where the heart is- feel the same way. Noticing the shift for us as well when it comes to food- things are more roasted ( the veggies0 not so many salads. More jackets and socks....and of course here come the Canadian geese.
Wishing you a lovely weekend outdoors :)

  17. For all of the traveling I do, I really like hanging at home. We just bought some bicycle tail lights to wrap around the handles of the retractable leashes so I can walk the boys at dusk and drivers will see us.

  18. In between downpours yesterday, I ventured out to pick the rest of our tomatoes. Despite almost slipping and spilling the entire bowlful on my way back up to the house (!!), the fresh air and damp coolness provided a wonderful respite to all the indoor chores requiring my attention...none of which included knitting. What a shame. :)

  19. Oh lovely, Karen!
Despite the fact that I haven't been anywhere far, I keep envisioning returning home next weekend when my event is over and the idea is bliss...
