Weekends-Family Matters

Oh, this weekend was extra special, but it was ordinary to me while the hours sped by.  We visited my family for our Thanksgiving feast, full of turkey and too many side dishes.  Pumpkin pie (yum) was eaten gleefully because it will be next year until it's made one more time.

Friday morning. my sister and I had our outing.  Of course there was a yarn shop and not only did I have birthday money to spend but a gift certificate as well.  We had fun looking and contemplating what would be the purchase.  I left with a bag of wool and endless ideas of what I want to create.

Friday night usually is a gingerbread house making night, but this year it was a surprise birthday party for me surrounded by my family.  What I loved the most about the party is that I was SURPRISED.  I think I'm getting old, I'm not as sharp as I used to be ;) My sister and brother in law created a slide show with music from some old photos.  For me my childhood was yesterday not as long ago as it really is.  We laughed at the clothes and styles, so dated.  I remember when those photos were snapped and the location, not to mention my mood (I was an intense child).

Family Matters. Friends come and go, they wax and wane as our lives change, alter and drift while raising children, changing careers and through difficult times.  For me, Family is what remains constant.  I celebrated with my sister, brother in law and nephew, my dad and step mom, my aunt and uncle, many cousins with their children.  I am thankful for my family and especially my sister who started planning this surprise last Thanksgiving.

Thanks, Sis!!

  13. You're right, family remains constant. And that's why some friends are really and truly family. I want to believe that those types of friends will somehow become actual relatives one day, perhaps by a future generation tying the knot :)

  17. Oh, how wonderful! Happy belated! It must have been such a joyful surprise:) I find the same thing with birthdays as holidays--it's the people you love who make them special. And they just get more special every year. Glad you had some pumpkin pie! Ours is gone now, and I am sure I won't make another till next year!
