Currently on the Needles

I have been working on this red rock canyon shawl with every single chance I have since arriving home from vacation.  My time has been limited because vacations take at least a week to recover and to get caught up.  I wish I knew why!  Anyways, this is a wonderful knit for the knitter who is very comfortable in chart reading.  I'm nearing the end of another chart and getting giddy with the prospect of starting another chart!

I don't need to tell you I'm still reading David Copperfield, do I?  I can tell you this, I love the book and the characters.  Also I can hazard a guess I might be done this week?  (or next week?).  Soon though, I will have other books to talk about.  I am glad that I'm reading this classic.  I believe I'll read more of novels by Dickens, but after a break :)

what are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. Karen, I love the colors in your yarn project! So vibrant and rich!

I totally understand what you mean about after returning home from vacations and needing a week to get recover and get caught up. It is just that getting back in the routine again that gets me! :)

Have a wonderful HUMP DAY today! :)

  2. Karen, what a gorgeous pattern, I can't wait to see it finished. Great colour combination. Settling in back at home always takes a while after a vacation. Have a great day!

  3. I always feel that I need a holiday to get over having a holiday! I love going away but hate unpacking.
I'm not into chart reading at the moment maybe in the autumn, I also think that's the perfect time for reading Dickens.
I've just started reading a Persephone novel and am still knitting my boneyard shaw. But like you Karen there's no real rush I'm enjoying the process.
Enjoy the rest of David Copperfield.

  4. Have your recovered yet? It does take a while to regroup and find your groove again, at least it does for me after a vacation.

I am comfortable reading charts and now wonder why I was so afraid of them, I guess the unknown.
Love your knitting Karen, it's always just beautiful!

  5. I love those colors. I am just learning to be comfortable with charts but the truth is that I still write out some sections because my brain likes the words instead of symbols. I have never read David Copperfield but it seems like a book worth starting. Happy Knitting!

  9. Another beautiful shawl on your needles, Karen... I prefer written instructions, but charts are so handy when it comes to lace; once I figure them out, they're not so difficult.

We were only away for two days last weekend, yet it seemed like so much longer! The unpacking always takes longer than the packing, doesn't it?

  10. Oh what a stunning shawl this is going to be!! Swoon... I love going on vacation, I don't mind packing for it, but hate unpacking when we get back. Not sure why that is, just can't stand it. Hope you're back in the swing of things and recovered from your trip. :-)

  11. I love the very little of Dickens that I've read, although my husband spoiled the end of Great Expectations for me and I never actually finished it...

    Beautiful yarn choice!

  12. Hi Karen... again admiring your beautiful work! I just learned the Knit stitch, takes a lot of coordination to hold all that stuff. I love to crochet and starting to learn to knit has me "itching" to make something (because this learning process is going to take some time) so I started making baby caps to donate to the local pregnancy resource center.
Looking forward to seeing your finished work!

  18. Welcome back, Karen! It looks like your vacation was fabulous (and you're so lucky you got to meet Tracey). I always need a week to recover after going away, too. I just returned on Monday from a little trip back home to visit my parents, and I am still playing catch-up. Your shawl look spectacular as always. You always pick such nice yarn, patterns, and colors. ♥

When you next decide to take up Dickens, may I recommend A Tale of Two Cities if you haven't read it yet? It is my favorite of his.

  25. The color combo is spectacular!
I think that is one of the eternal questions sent out into the Omniverse! WHY does it take longer regrouping, once back, than it does packing to go? Lol. ;)

  32. Lovely shawl and love the colour. I remember reading David Copperfield at school over 40 years ago! Loved it and I have 3 copies for some unknown reason. There are a few movie versions you may like too. Rather a miserable depressing era though.
