Currently on the Needles

This past week has been a good knitting week overall.  I successfully re knit what I ripped out last week and divided for the armholes as I knit my way down the body of the sweater.  Once the decreasing is finished for the waist shaping, I'll be finishing the sweater in no time at all.  I get a little giddy when the armholes are set aside.  The knitting is much faster.

The Book Thief continues to be entertaining and I am enjoying the easy reading.  I finished The Scarlet Letter which was good.  However, I think if that novel was mandatory for reading while I was in high school, most of the plot would have gone over my head.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. It's great that you have had good knitting mojo this week Karen. I think you will be wearing your pretty sweater in no time!

  2. that sweater is flying!!! along......looking great! (I really like that layered candle in the background, too! How have you resisted lighting it????)

  3. Still loving that pumpkin colour, the pattern too. I like the garter stitch bands down the front and now that I've discovered that it's a free pattern I'll be downloading it. I can't resist a free knitting pattern...especially such a nice one. I'm dying to start a big project, I'm still working on the sock yarn blanket but want to make a sweater now. Just waiting for yarn to arrive.

I read something about the scarlet letter recently, or someone told me something about it all having complicated subtext and double meanings. I must see if I can remember who it was. I read it ages ago and probably most of it went over mine!

  6. That looks like it is going to be a very cozy sweater! I read the Book Thief and I ended it (or I should say I listened to the audio book). I watched the movie after and was very disappointed.

  7. Your sweater is gorgeous, Karen. You will look beautiful in it! LOVE the square candle in your picture!

  8. Still the orange? You are making terrific progress, Karen. :) We read The Scarlet Letter out loud here in our homeschool and both my kids hated it, but it is required...

  9. I love that orange - can't wait to see it finished. The Book Thief is a great book. And I will have to re-read The Scarlet Letter to see what I missed as I last read it when I was about 18.

  11. I read The Scarlet Letter in 9th grade and The House of Seven Gables in 10th grade. I remember enjoying both books, but I don't remember either one very well. Maybe it's time to re-read!

  13. I never read The Scarlet Letter, somehow in all of the required and for-fun classical reading I skipped it but have thought that I should now. I think I did try to read it once but it was not interesting so I dropped it.
Your sweater is beautiful, I have to agree with everyone else that the color is lovely! Glad you had a good knitting week.

  14. What a beautiful sweater. It looks like you will be done in no time. That little frogging adventure didn't seem to slow you down. I read The Scarlet Letter in high school and I think again in college. It definitely has a lot of sub context.

  15. You have certainly made up for all that frogging, you are making great progress. Its looking wonderful.

  16. The Scarlet Letter was a very different book when read as an adult than it was when read in high school. I enjoyed it much more! Love the color of your sweater, as it brightens the dreary of winter.

  21. Not knitting or reading much this week. Been a bit occupied and preoccupied but I'm looking forward to a much slower week-end : Plan on finishing my daughter's neck warmer an reading a bit more of a wonderful book lent to me by a friend. The sweater is coming along nicely. Again, love the color!

  27. Love your sweater! great job knitting.

Im knitting socks side by side and am happy! I happen to be under a NEW electric blanket right now. Im so darn cold. I caved today and bought one. Im done reading the Sedaris book; I gave up half way through. I did find out I LOVE reading magazines on the NOOK. So I'm reading magazines and feeling warm and relaxed. I'll pick up my needles by dinner

  31. Your sweater is coming along nicely. I love that book. Love it. Don't laugh I'm reading The Maze Runner. I read a little short story from the Flavia De Luce series. I'm currently knitting baby hats and ripping out socks :)

  32. Look at you go on the sweater, can't wait to see it on you :)

  33. I've had this sweater (My Favorite Color) bookmarked for over a year...now I think I need to get it on the needles soon....your beautiful yummy orange color makes me want to start now! :)

  34. There's no stopping you! I'm at exactly the same place; dividing the sleeves on a sweater for my eldest daughter and breathing with a little relief as I know that I will pick up speed from now on.

Now, if only we didn't have to knit two whole sleeves....:-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lol I feel exactly the same way when I separate the sleeves too. I actually rather like knitting sleeves, they work up so quickly compared to the main part of the sweater and they tend to be fairly simple to knit too

  36. Tat's going to be a beautiful sweater!

  37. Beautiful. beautiful. can't wait to see it on you! blessings ~ tanna

  39. What a fabulous colour! I love that feeling when a project suddenly leaps into life and you know the end is in sight. :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. While you have been knitting you sweater down from the top I've been knitting mine (Bluebells by Kate Davies) up from the bottom. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Now that is a gorgeous colour, and it looks as if it will be really warm!

    ReplyDelete
  42. The sleeves are the hardest part for me to finish! Once I get to them, I just want to hurry it up and get it done. But I'm naturally impatient :) Also, your sweater looks great so far!

    ReplyDelete
  43. It's so exciting to be that close to finishing a sweater -- at least I imagine it would be! I've been reading. I've been reading, "Quiet," a book about the power of introverts.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Good job doing all that reknitting. You are so speedy! Looks like you'll have a sweater soon. Enjoy your weekend.

  45. Love that color.. So wish I could knit... xo
