Currently on the Needles

This past week, I've been making progress on my gray cowl (for me) and I started another pair of socks for me.  I'm having fun alternating between the two projects and hopefully I'll have one of the them finished next week, I hope.

For reading, I'm thoroughly enjoying this book A Tale for the Time Being.  A ziplock bag containing a hello kitty lunch box and a diary written by a young girl washes up on shore and is found by Ruth who starts reading the diary.  The story so far is bittersweet and I'm pulled to each of the main characters, Ruth and Nao.  I simply savor a book that has a strong beginning and draws my interest and empathy right into the plot.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. For the past week I have had NO time to read and very little time to work on my knitting. I will be glad when things get back to normal around here.
Love the color you have chosen for your socks!

  2. Love the sock yarn! Not another great sounding book to put on hold at the library - they already think I'm the crazy book lady! It sounds really interesting.

  3. Hooray for sock knitting! I'm not sure if sock knitting is the best because it is the main reason I learned to knit, but whatever the reason it's fun.
    Your book sounds interesting.

  5. You do such a good job of describing the books you read, Karen -- makes me wish I had time to check them all out and do not much else than read (and knit, too, of course!). :)

  6. Great projects on the needles. I love it when I can switch back and forth between projects.
Yay for another great book recommendation. You are increasing my "to-read" list with every post.
I am reading The Bees by Laline Paul.

  7. Can't wait to hear what you think of the book, I am on the lookout for books to add to my library queue. I just finished ranting to my husband about how I can never tell if books on the shelf are going to be worth reading and participating in the yarn along has helped with that immensely!

  12. That is awesome that you are knitting two things for yourself at the moment! I finished the pullover for my son and now I'm knitting a bag. I have been knitting so much I didn't have time to read. I think I need to get started with Audio books soon ;)

  14. fun knits! :) That book sounds interesting; I always love books that involve diaries or letters! have you read Elizabeth Goudge's _Scent of Water_? it involves the main character finding the Aunt's journals; very poignant and touching.

  19. I love the sock yarn. It looks like it is going to give you a spiral stripe. Pretty. I love to read books that catch your attention and draw you in immediately. I may have to put this on my wishlist.

  20. I really like your self striping yarn. Knitting socks is so fun and totally addictive. :-)

  21. After much time on the UFO pile, I have picked up the shawl (from the class in Bloom that you taught), and it took me a while to figure out just what I was doing! When I started knitting a few years ago, I liked using the wood needles, and that is what is on this particular project. But, since I began this one, I have graduated to and love the nickel plated Knit Picks (interchangeable). I need to place an order so I can swap the wooden ones out, for sure! Not liking the wooden ones now! Spring is coming, my friend! That means our knitting time is getting closer! Can't wait!

  26. This book sounds intriguing - have added it to my audible wish list. I have just finished reading / listening to The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton and highly recommend it if you haven't already read it. It definitely needs a sequel though...
