Currently on the Needles

We have been busy this week painting the family room and kitchen.  We still have the hallway, stairwell, powder room and dining room left to do.  So as you can imagine, my knitting time is scarce.  However, I do sit and rest and pick up this super easy citron shawl.  This is my fifth one and I could knit this over and over again.

I picked up Big Stone Gap which I have read before but wanted a comfortable re read.  I have many other books going at the same time but needed a slow and easy read.  I love Trigiani's writing style so much like Fanny Flagg if you ask me.  Nothing traumatic happens and a very happy plot.

What are you knitting and reading?

  1. I have been thinking of you painting away and know you will be happy when it's complete.
Comfortable re reads are like visiting old friends aren't they? I do that a lot too.
I keep saying I am going to knit a Citron myself since I love yours, maybe I need to have
    a cast on day ;)

  3. Sometimes when you have lots going on, you need simple happy reading to settle things down. I can't wait to see that Citron finished. I think it's going to look great in those colors.

  14. There's something to be said for re-knitting and re-reading. Sounds like the perfect match for relaxing in the moments between everything else going on!

  15. You have been on my mind this week, hope all the painting is going well. Gorgeous knitting.

  16. I always like the soft look of your knits. I too enjoy books like this. That is why I have enjoyed Jan Karon's Mitford Series. The book I am reading right now (a "classic") is stressing me out. I can't wait to be done. Hope your painting goes quickly and you can settle down into the things you enjoy most! :)

  17. Sounds like you're having a very productive week. This is our concert week, so not a whole lot is getting done but music making. I am still trying to read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close for book club. It is weird.

  18. I SHOULD be painting in our kitchen but the days just whiz by and I can't seem to find time to get myself started again after putting the brushes down last month. It is so hard with little kids for me to find the time and when there is time, it's late at night and I'm too dang tired! haha! Your green in your living room is really beautiful. As is this shawl, wow, the color is really gorgeous. Really beautiful Karen, and I have that book on my library list!

  19. Oh, you're making progress! What colors did you choose for the kitchen and dining room? I love a freshly painted room. I have never heard of Adrian Trigiani, I will have to check out this book. I am working my way through The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. My daughter loved it. I like it but find it a little slow at times. Have a good rest of the week! xx

  20. I can't wait to see the finished projects - the freshly painted rooms and the shawl. Not a lot of knitting going on right now, too much other stuff going on. I keep telling myself "only 6 more days of work" and hope to finally have some down time then.

  21. I have been seeing the painting pictures on instagram, it looks so good! Also your shawl is gorgeous! I am going to have to try knitting one, this summer!

  24. I've pondered tackling Citron a few times ... I'm guessing you'd recommend I do ;)

  25. Happy painting! We are getting ready to paint 2 bathrooms--so much fun....I would rather be knitting. :) I am such a fan of Schoeppel -and your shawl is really lovely. Big Stone Gap series is a favorite of mine- I have read through the series twice and now my daughter wants to borrow them! Your description of her books is perfect..."Nothing traumatic happens and a very happy plot"! I am a big fan of Flagg too. Have you read anything by Maeve Binchy or Rosamunde Pilcher? I feel the same way about them too.

  26. Your shawl will look beautiful in those colors! Five times on one pattern means that it is a VERY good pattern :) Hope you're doing well!

  27. Well if knitting a pattern for the 5th time isn't a testimony of how much you enjoy it I don't know what is! I don't think I've ever knit a particular pattern more than twice.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oo, I love that pattern - I must give that one a go. I'm currently in the midst of making a cowl from Cashmere lace on 6.5mm needles - it has been a bit of a tension adventure so far! It is a new stitch to me - the twice knit stitch - might be one you would like I think. My inspiration was the Purl Bee project here: http://www.purlbee.com/2015/05/08/crosshatch-cowl/
