Currently on the Needles

I've been working on a hat for my son and I've been enjoying inventing the striping pattern as I knit.  Free form knitting?  Knit doodling?  Whatever you call it, I'm finding it quite engaging.  I hope he likes it.  The yarns are all left overs from previous projects, mainly Cascade 220 and Ella Rae.  The ravelry page is here.

I finished The Girl on the Train which I found quite enjoyable.  It's a fast read and even though I guessed who did it, I loved reading and watching the story unfold.  An extremely easy read and entertaining.  Last night I started The Remains of the Day, I do not recall reading this book but once I dig in I'll know soon.  Sometimes I cannot remember what I read 20 years ago...

Oh and I finished my cardigan

What are you knitting and reading this week?

The Remains of the Day, did they make a movie of this? I haven't read it
either, but the title is very familiar.

  7. I love what I call free-range knitting, though I'm neither brave no skilled enough to do a lot of it!
I hope you like Remains of the Day. I think it's one of the greatest novels written in English.

  10. Remains of the day was one of my favorite books, but I did read it about 20 years ago. Love the colors of the hat. They're perfect for a man hat (or a woman hat!).

  12. Hi Karen! I'll bet your son's going to love his new beanie...I like the colors you chose for the stripes and think it looks great. :) I've not read RotD but the title does sound familiar. I recently finished To Kill a Mockingbird and have started Go Set a Watchman. Reviews are mixed, so I'm not sure whether I'll like it or not. As of last night, I'm on chapter 3...slow going as my eyelids are pretty droopy by the time I'm able to pick it up.
    xo Lisa :)

  17. I like how the colors are being striped. Did you carry up the mustard brown or cut and start again?

    1. If the span was less than an inch I carried it up. If it is more than an inch I cut and start again, it works for me most of the time!

  20. The colors of your hat are so good together--I love them! I finished Girl on the Train earlier this year and enjoyed it--had me hooked from the beginning. I have never read Remains of the Day. I look forward to your thoughts on it. Congrats on your sweater finish! It is stunning!

  21. Your knitting looks great! Have you read Knitting the Sky? It's interesting, all about playing around with knitting instead of following patterns and such.

  22. Great use of some leftover yarn, the yarn doodled stripes look great!

  23. Love the hat, and I usually enjoy Kazuo Ishiguro books (especially Never Let Me Go and A Pale View Of Hills!). I'm finishing up a shawl and still reading The Bees.

  24. Hi Karen, I'm having a lovely catch up over here. I've just copied the Golden Pear baby hat pattern. It's so cute. Thank you for directing us to it. I love the tale of your childhood trips to your grandmothers house. The colours in this hat are awesome. I love the contrast of the mustardy yellow with the grey and black. Enjoy your book...I don't think I've read it although I have a couple of other's by the author...I suspect that I've seen the film though...

I'm still working on the Cobblestone sweater but hope to complete it this weekend...I want to order yarn for lots of winter knits and Christmas presents. I'm reading a silly Inspector Gamache murder mystery by Louise Penny. Not very well written but cosy for autumn evenings...lots of food mentioned and cosy fires.

    Have a great weekend.

  25. Knit doodling? I like that. And the book looks interesting.
It’s been a while since I visited here instead of through my reader. Love the hydrangeas. A favorite of mine. Bon weekend!

  27. I listened to Girl on the Train and my feeling mirror yours. I knew who did it, but really enjoyed the journey. Very fast paced and addicting story. I'm listening to another Charles Lennox mystery. Not my favorite of the series, but perhaps it's because I'm not reading it ... the real world reading is very limited. It has become a next weekend kind of desire... I love your knit doodle hat. It's the most polished looking doodle I ever done seen. :)

  30. I love your knit doodling. That is a great hat. I am glad you liked The Girl on the Train. I found it a very slow and depressing read. I guessed the ending also. I have passed it on so others can try it.

  31. I like the hat. I have to knit something similar for my big boy as we head into autumn, his school colours are navy and gold.
