Currently on the Needles

Ha!  I bet you were expecting the same old same old in my knitting and reading.  I am happy to report that my super secret knitting is finished and I am knitting for myself.  I cast on the Baa-ble hat that everyone on Ravelry has knit.  Okay maybe not everybody but I keep seeing this hat and I want it.  I want to wear a sheep hat while I walk and be like everyone else.  I'm simple that way.

I had a thrill casting on and relaxing with a non Christmas present knit.  for me.  yes!

Those stars up there are super cute and beautiful but I must say a bit labor intensive.  I would like to knit a few more but my weary hands are taking a little break.  I think I clench my hands while knitting them and get arm pains.  However, the pain is worth it, I guess.

My reading has changed as well this week.  Well maybe it's the same.  I am reading on my kindle "A Man Called Ove"  it is a delightful easy funny book to read.  I am involved and invested, just like a well written book hooks an unaware reader.  I want to read more of what he has written!

Before I go I'd like to share with you my niece-in-law's new etsy site --  Smokey Aspen -- Hope is quite talented and she has such lovely items that are perfect for the holiday season :)

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  5. I love the stars and added them to my favs on Ravelry but won't let myself cast on anything else until holiday knits are done. I am so close! The first thing I'm making afterwards is a hat....just for me! wow she is super talented with that wood burner! beautiful work

  6. OK. we've done it again. Just yesterday I took an elderly (but ACtIVe!) friend to our not so local yarn shop and bought yarn for the baa-ble hat. I just haven't cast on yet. (MUST finish the Christmas knits, but it's mighty high on the 'me' list when that stuff is done!!!) And those stars have been booked for months. They really look rather fiddly. I have to be in a fiddly mood----and I simply haven't had time. Enjoy the rest of the week, my knitting soul-sister.

  7. Oh I love your stars Karen, they are beautiful! I look forward to seeing your Baa-ble hat .. too fiddly for me but I know it will be beautiful when your done :)

  8. I'm anxious to see how your hat will look with the brown. Another great color idea! Those stars are so pretty. Maybe I'll give them a try after I get the rest of the knitting done for the holidays.

  9. Love the stars! I checked them out on Raillery and was tempted to knit a few for a friend, but then decided I just don't have time. They'll go on next year's list. I love the Baa-ble hat, and plan to knit it in the near future. What yarn are you using?

  10. Those stars are darling, but I know how labor-intensive those small items are. Baby socks, for example, seem harder than adult-sized ones. I think I clench, too, when I'm knitting something small and detailed.

Count me in as a sheep, too. I'll be knitting the hat eventually!

  12. I want a BaaBle Hat as well, I am just like you, if I am tempted to often, I have to have it. I read A Man Called Ove a while ago and I really loved it.

  13. These stars are adorable! A BaaBle hat seems to be so "in" right now! My Instagram feed is full of it!

  14. I've not knit the hat yet, so you aren't the only one! I love your knitted stars! They do look labor intensive.

  15. That Baa-ble hat is adorable. I hope you enjoy knitting it. Those stars are great also. I think sometimes working on small items hurts your arms more than large. There is one particular hat that I have made that is an easy item to knit but it does a number on my arms.

  16. That pattern is such a cute one- can't wait to see yours unfold! Your stars are lovely!

  17. I love the baa-ble hat and have plans to learn how to knit in 2016 just so I can have this hat :)

  18. I need to knit a baa-ble hat too! I'm still waiting for the rest of my yarn for gift knitting to get here-fingers crossed!

  19. I love the Baable hat! Mine turned out too big but I still wear it, although I'm tempted to make another one that fits right! Love the stars too, shame they're a bit dangerous to make :)

  20. Really love your stars!! I've saved the pattern to do one day. I'll have to do mine on straight needles and then sew up (don't do dpn's)!

  22. She is a talented and artistic one. The stars are terrific. I'm sorry your hands suffered from these small projects. Okay, just b/c of you, I've faved the Baa-ble hat.

  23. Hi Karen,

Your header is so pretty...your blog is always such a peaceful place to visit. :)

The stars are so pretty...I love the color.

I wanted to tell you that we enjoyed some Potato, Leek and Kale soup this evening for our supper. I was able to use our own potatoes, leeks and kale...love it when recipes work out like that. :) That recipe has become one of our favorite soups around here. Thanks so much for sharing the recipe.

Leaving a hug and smile behind for you. xx :)

  26. The Baa-ble hat is one in my favs as well and yes, I think everyone is knitting it too.Glad your Xmas knitting is done.

  27. Oh, how I wish I could say I was done with gift knitting. I really do like those stars, Karen. And if I had time, I'd cast on a Baa-ble hat. Setting knitting goals really needs to be a focus of mine with the new year nearly upon us. No new patterns, no new yarn until the wip's are fo's and the stash is greatly diminished...wishful thinking. :)

  28. Those stars are so pretty. I was just looking at a couple or ornaments this morning. I thought they'd be fun for the grands although I'm not sure I have time this year. I am reading the sweetest old fashioned kind of story, "Goodnight Mr. Wodehouse" by Faith Sullivan. It is just right for this time of year - soothing, touching, not too heavy. The main character faces some challenges in life but she feel like someone I'd love to know. I am finishing up a pair of mittens and I've a baby sweater to seam.

  29. I keep seeing the same hat and I really think I need one, too. :-) I've made a few of those stars last year, they are really pretty.

  30. That's a really cute hat! I'll never be able to make it! Enjoy your stress free knitting! :)

  31. Yay for fun knitting! I'm glad you've finished your Christmas knitting!

  32. The stars are gorgeous! Are you going to use them as tree ornaments? Love all the snowmen peeking in at the top of your photo! :)

  33. I think it's interesting how some knits are so much harder on the hands for whatever reason. Nonetheless, the stars are very pretty, and well finished. I'd love to do one next year. Your season knitting is very cozy. I'm working my seasonal socks and I just finished an Agatha Christie on audiobook. I have been reading Harry Potter on the kindle in the middle of the night when I can't sleep.

  34. Those stars are fantastic! And the hat is so cute. You are really making some knitting progress. I just finished that book. Hope you enjoy it.

  35. Hi - love your stars. I have only once knitted in the round and didn't like it. I only knit on straight needles but I think I will try and have another go on circular. My hubby read a Man called Ove and didn't enjoy it. We all have different tastes in reading. Joan at www.aviewtothefells.com

  36. I'm one of the few knitters that also hasn't knit the Baa-ble hat yet. It's so cute though, I also want to have a sheep hat when I walk!
