Currently on the Needles

Good morning!  Isn't this a fine Wednesday, Ash Wednesday?  I have lots to tell.  First off, my cardigan is making steady progress, I'm nearing to the edging.  Quite exciting, because the sleeves will be a breeze and then, boom, I'll have a sweater!  The baby blanket is growing and hopefully will be finished in two weeks, fingers crossed.

I finished Blue Asylum and it was "okay".  It wasn't the worst book I've read and it wasn't the best book I've read.  The writing style was lovely and that is what kept me reading along, I think.  The plot got weird in the middle then it unweirded itself.  So, if you like weird southern Gothic themed books give it a read.

My son bought me the above book, Carry On for Christmas.  I started this last night and really cannot say much so far.  I do like her writing and I've read some of her other books.  So I hope this is a good one!!  I am still reading Song of the Lark and adore the restful reading it provides.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. Yay for your cardi. I hope to knit another for myself someday... maybe I should start with blocking and wearing the one that I have made for myself ;-)

  6. I have never read Rainbow, but I adore her name. I tease Erin and tell her I am going to rename her and her name will be Rainbow Spring!

  12. I have loved the Rainbow R. books I have read so far. How is that one shaping up? I guess I need to admit that I will forever be one of those adults who enjoys Young Adult literature, and is that so bad? I don't think so. Worse sins, by far. xoxo

  13. Fantastic sweater progress. WOW you are going to have a new hand knit sweater! WOW. I'm so happy for you. No small feat. I love the baby blanket you are working on too.
Reading: nada. nothing. Zip. Oh well except magazines.
This reminds me I need to watch another Geeky girl podcast....while I knit.

  16. Always a fan of the knit + book photos. It's funny you are featuring this book, since I was just taking a looksee at it online last night. I haven't committed yet. Perhaps I'll wait for our final review :)

  17. The cardigan is looking good. I read Rainbow's "Elinor and Park." That was a great book. I hope this one is good as well :)

  18. I like how your son bought you a book; when you're curled up with it, you're like curled up with him. Yay on almost finishing the cardigan!

  19. My knitting and reading has been so sloooow lately... I finally finished my book, but haven't started on my next one yet. The knitting is lace weight yarn, a dark blue... Not really the perfect "knit in the evening after getting home from work and getting all my stuff done" knitting... Oh well, the days are getting longer and there's no rush to any of it.

  20. I am glad you are enjoying "The Song of the Lark." I love what Cather writes about being an artist, i.e. musician in the book, and in some ways about herself. The section that takes place in the southwest is good to read in the winter. Anyway, I am slogging away on my September Morn (really ought to create a project page on Rav) and a pair of Valentine socks. I just began reading "All the Light We Cannot See." Have a good week.

  23. Yay for both your cardi and your blanket. I'm knitting a baby blanket, too. Mine needs to be finished for gifting on the 21st. My neice lives in SoCal, so I went with cotton yarn for a lightweight blankie. Lots of worsted weight yarn on US 8s makes for a speedy knit!

  26. I love the colour of that yarn, yay for the impending sweater! I just read Attachments and liked it more than I expected to but I've heard mixed reviews about this one :)

  27. Love the color of the yarn you are using Karen! I saw that you were reading Carry On over at Goodreads, my daughters really enjoyed that book. I just finished Lord of the Flies. I never had to read it in high school so decided to give it a go. I couldn't believe what a brutal story it was! Really well written, I finished it quickly. Have a great weekend!

  28. I am so jealous of your snow. We have had very little for Wisconsin. There was a blizzard a few weeks ago, but it went north of Madison.
Many students have recommended Carry On to me. One of these days ...
