Currently on the Needles

My knitting this past week has been about the same.  I'm enjoying the pincha shawl pattern.  I have the pattern completely memorized and STILL it's a full concentration knit because of the counting for short rows.  I've managed to listen to a few audio podcasts while knitting but it's a challenge for me.  I love the emerging colors as I add a feather each day.

My simple sock is crawling along.  I'm not thrilled with the single ply yarn however the colors are delightful.  Because it's single ply they wool tends to be splitty.  Oh well.  More concentration!!

I started a new book, Hausfrau  which was a Christmas gift from my son.  So far, the premise is good. However, I do not like the potty language (remember I'm a prude...).  For some reason, that bothers me more the older I become.  I've read a few chapters so I cannot fully opine about the plot.  Stay tuned!

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. The shawl will be worth every moment of concentration. It will look like the beautiful plumage of a handsome male peacock...an heirloom piece. You are an inspiration!

  2. Beautiful and inspiring! Cannot wait to see pincha finished. I'm with you on the potty language. Language and inappropriate *ahem* scenes are simply literary litter in my humble opinion. Sometimes, though, the language is there for a sense of realism, perhaps, as in my last read, but still...

  5. My awe of Pincha increases with each row! What a visual Delhi. Worth the concentration, I'd wager.

  6. Your feathers are just growing and growing. I have a hard time concentrating on short rows too for some reason. In answer to your question on the blog - I'm using Schachenmayr Tahiti. Webs has it. Any yarn with long color changes work.

  13. Oh your shawl!! So so beautiful!!
I agree about being a prude- language doesn't bother me as much as gratuitous sex and violence which especially bothers me more than it did even when I was younger and especially in tv and movies.

  14. The knitted feathers are a delight, such a stunning shawl worth all the effort when you have it finished.

  15. Pincha is so pretty.

I don't think of myself as a prude, per se, but I am right there with you over "potty" mouth. The "f" word seems to be EVERYWHERE anymore. I guess it is totally acceptable now. :-( I was all interested in just WHEN Anna wasn't the perfect wife, until you got to the potty mouth stuff. Oh well ---- Anna's secret shall remain her own, I suppose.

I'm reading Knitlandia by Clara Parkes. No potty mouth there. Just some sweet little road tripping and knitting.

Nothing on the needles --- finished my socks last night and haven't delved into the stash yet this morning. Stay tuned. LOL

  19. Every time I see your shawl, Karen, I love it even more! It's like the pretty plumes of a special bird a woman would wear on her jaunty, little hat back in time. I added the pattern on Rav. I am reading a modern day romance which is actually really good and I need to knit more this week.

  26. I just finished reading All the Light We Cannot See. Although it is set during WWII and war is terrible, I thought Doerr's writing was beautiful. Now I am reading This River Under the Sky - nonfiction nature writing. I needed something completely different from the novel I enjoyed so much. Knitting on dish cloths and the spring shawl ironically called Frozen Silver. Sounds about right for me. :-)

  30. Karen, as soon as I saw this shawl I thought of peacock feathers, it is simply stunning! I love your work so much! I laughed when i read your comment about potty language, I am becoming that way as well. : ) My husband too...we are watching "The Americans" on Netflix and there is a lot of sex in it and every time a scene comes up he roles his eyes and says, "You'd think the only spying that's ever done is in the bedroom!" LOL!

  31. Every time I see you knitting socks I start to wish I could do socks again!!! Why in the world I can't seem to get them down! They are something I really want to do! :)
I understand the potty language. As I age I have no tolerance for it.
Hope you have a nice weekend. Cold here again.

  34. That shawl is beautiful! I have knitted in short rows once and I love the effect but yes, it takes some concentration. ;) I also love the yarn you are using for the socks! Mmmm....love me some stripes! As far as potty mouthing goes...I can be a bit of one myself but reading it in books is something I am just not keen on. Ha! Double standard much? ;)
