Currently on the Needles

Ha!  My knitting is a little bit different, although I'm still plugging along on the baby blanket.  Over the weekend, I cast on another wurm hat for a relative of a friend I know who is going through chemo treatments.  I wanted to knit something in her favorite color and hope this small gift brings her joy during her health challenges.  According to Ravelry, this is the eighth time I've knit the wurm pattern.  I must like it!

I also posted about my finished shawl yesterday.

My reading has been minimal for The Tavern on Maple Street.  This happened because I started a library book After You and well, it's a library book, there's a deadline of sorts so I feel I should read that more than the other one...  Both books are good.

What have you been knitting and reading this week?

  1. I am the same with "deadline" books from the library. They get to move to the front of the line, lol. And, what a lovely hat - I have not yet knit a Wurm hat. Which is something I might need to remedy this fall!

  4. I like Jo Jo Meyers! I think I read that one, but they are starting to blur a bit....you can never go wrong with magenta knitting. Never,

  5. those deadline library books...always come at the worst times. I just had to return one....it was a good excuse to let go of one that really wasn't grabbing me, so I guess they do have their advantages!!! How very thoughtful of you....I know that wurm will be much appreciated!

  6. I had to turn in an audiobook that came at the same time as another one that I had waited months for. I decided it was ok to do so since I can always request it again!

  7. A Wurm hat will be perfect for a person undergoing chemo. That's why I like library books - I either have to finish it or give it back. It makes me get it done!

  8. I love that hat and colour! Thanks for your comment on my blog - I think you would enjoy the magazine Making too! :) some really beautiful knitting patterns in it! :)

  10. The library book deadline has been instrumental in my reading "goals" this year! I know how many days I have with a book and I figure out how many pages a day need to be read in order to finish it and then I just make sure to read that number every day somehow- or how many I need to catch up the next day if I miss a day. Amazing how small goals make things possible so I can actually imagine reading a 350 page book this month along with some other books i still have going and all the rest of life!
Beautiful hat, I can only imagine how I would appreciate that in the same situation.

  12. I love the Wurm pattern! I knit a purple one several years ago, and it's my warmest winter hat :) I'm in the same boat with library books-I can read a whole stack from the library in a week, but there are books that I own that have been in my currently-reading pile for years. I guess I'm just a student at heart, and will always need a deadline to get anything done!

  14. Such a thoughtful gift for a friend in need, hope all goes well with the treatment. I don't seem to be reading much at the moment, there are just not enough hours in the day.

  15. Love the hat, you have inspired me to make it for me. I do love my ears covered in the cold wind. I enjoyed You before Me better. The film has just arrived in NZ and us girls hope to see it soo. I believe she is writing a third in the series.

  17. I like your little staged table there, Karen. What a happy color for a dear friend going through a rough treatment. I will keep her in my thoughts. Knitting the same ol' socks, one pair I seriously need to finish before this month ends. That is my goal today. Finished another YA, a Kindle book about dragons and soldiers. I have a Chinese, historical book on my nightstand that I need to get to. The cover is so pretty.

  18. I've been so busy I missed your post yesterday! Got to see it! I think I need to decide if knitting or reading is my goal. I have too strict standards set on my reading...love this hat!

  20. What a good friend you are and I bet your friend can use a friend right now. We read "Me Before You" (same author) in our book group and had a very lively and interesting discussion. Let's see, I'm knitting some fingerless mitts and thinking about another easy peasy garter stitch shawl. It's summer after all. I listened to The Hemingses of Monticello. The author's research was fascinating.

  21. What a lovely colour for the hat. Cant wait to hear what you think of After You, haven't read it yet, but want too. I am knitting a hitchhiker and reading The Gifts of Imperfection. Taproot just came in the mail yesterday though, so that will most likely be my weekend reading.

  22. I really like the color of your hat! And I love your shawl!! Is it written out too - or just in chart format? I don't "do" charts... I agree with you - I love the shawl unblocked. I've blocked some things and then been sorry, as it seems to sometimes mess up the look of it for me!

    1. the surf pattern comes with written and charted directions. I highly recommend to keep trying the charts one day it will 'click' and you will knit faster than ever :)
