Currently on the Needles

My knitting has been the same this week.  I'm making steady progress on my Dandelion Daze Shawl, after ripping out four + rows over the weekend.  Silly me, I set the project down mid row and well, stitches fell off and I was unable to rescue and knit them back up.  Learned my lesson!! My socks are coming along.  I love that they are from Santa Barbara, so I think of my visit when we went there in May.  I am trying an afterthought heel instead of a heel flap.  Stay tuned for my review, I hope I like it!!

I finished my Hermione Socks as well.

I started The Dinner by Herman Koch last week and it's pleasantly entertaining.  Now I will warn you that the narrator has a sarcastic attitude which could be off putting to some.  However, my nephew insisted I would like this book and so far he is correct (I guess I ooze sarcasm...).  I love that there have been a few plot twists that I didn't expect.  I hate when I guess where the story is going!!

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. I am looking forward to hearing what you think of knitting an afterthought heel, I have always just done a heel flap.
I have been wanting to read The Dinner so love that you are enjoying it. I'm reading June and it's great!

  2. I like the process for the afterthought heel but always think that because they aren't reenforced, they won't wear quite as well....don't know why I worry so much about that since I'm working on nearly my gazillionth sock and don't wear any pair enough to wear out the heel!!! :) happy knitting!

  3. I haven't done the afterthought heal yet either. Sounds appealing. If you get to go back to SB to visit your childre, you can wear your socks on the plane to keep you cozy. Planes in particular always make my feet cold.

  4. I am eagerly awaiting your "after-thought" heel review! I just love Wednesdays - I get both pattern inspiration and my book list grows! I am knitting Tales from the Isle of Purbeck (which sounds like a book!!) and listening to The Book Thief, which is the perfect story for knitting.

  8. I found that I prefer a heel flap but I love that afterthought doesn't interrupt my stripe pattern!

  9. I just ordered The Dinner from Barnes and Noble and look forward to starting it. I am still reading The Lake House. Not as engaging as I'd hoped...way too many point of views...but I'm still only a third of the way through so hopefully it will pick up!

  10. I love the colour of your shawl! I think I might have read that book, I can't remember. I must start keeping a list of all the books I read again. Sometimes I'm halfway through a book before I realise I've read it before.....

  11. Socks are always nice to see in progress, but look at that cheerful yellow shawl--I like how that's coming along! That's going to be so nice and airy and delicate looking when it's blocked, too.

I keep seeing this book on people's lists. Hmmm!

  16. Sorry about your having to rip back; I set a project aside a few years ago after having done the same, and then one day, I picked it up and realized all I needed to do was rip back to the garter rows that were only a few rows back. :) I've not worked an afterthought sock heel, but then I don't knit many socks. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out and how you like it. xo

  17. I need to get moving on E's sock for that afterthought heel. I'll be interested in reading what you think about your experience. When you're done with this scarf and block it out, it will be amazing. It'll look like you just plucked it off from a wall in Morocco!

  18. I like your socks! Ripping back is never ever fun!

  19. Thank you, Karen, about E's Superman sock. I am so behind in this KAL. I've been devoting more time to my niece's top. He totally loves the colors too. I'm glad he's happy with it so far; he even asked if I was going to put little capes on them, LOL. I really like the yarn. Gonna look for this vendor again at STITCHES in February. I should make my Wonder Woman socks by then and wear them.
