Currently on the Needles

Good morning!  I have been busy with the fair isle hat and I finally (!) stopped making mistakes.  Well I think I've stopped making mistakes.  Phew.  I must say that sometimes I am amazed at what will get me to rethink my skills.  But I'm happy to report my faulty start was all due to my attention to detail and reading my color selections correctly.  I'm thoroughly enjoying the fair isle knitting!

I'm making steady progress on my cowl.  I don't want the knitting to end!  However I am getting close to finishing and will probably cast off over the weekend if not sooner.  Easy knitting is happy knitting and best of all, I don't have to think much on that project.

I am half way through The Daughter and like it overall.  It's a bit suspenseful and a lot of questioning how well we know our family members.  I'm interested in relationship dynamics so I'm glad I picked this book off of a display table in a bookstore.

What are you reading and knitting this week?

  1. I am still working away on my mystery shawl. Just downloaded a new book for my commune, Life Animated. I am hoping to cast on a little fair isle hat from Purl Soho in the next week. Your yarna ne book nest look lovely.

  2. Such lovely colors on your fair isle! The colorwork is probably the most difficult thing for me to work on, if I can knit basically any kind of texture with "closed eyes", fair isle requires so much concentration, at least for me!

  3. I am immersed in listening to Clara read Knitlandia to me - and I am enjoying it tremendously. I could stay in Knitlandia with Clara for the foreseeable future! If only I felt so immersed in my knitting! I am feeling a bit of knitting "meh" recently. I think I need a good dose of Honey Cowl to get out of this rut!

  5. That cowl looks wonderful and the fair isle hat has some great colors. The book sounds tempting, I just reserved it at our library ;-)

  6. Fair Isle is my favourite kind of knitting! It's very addictive - the need to do just one more row as the pattern emerges is hard to resist. Your hat is looking great. And if it makes you feel any better I manage to mess up the charts frequently as well. :-)

  7. Sounds like an interesting read. I am knitting a cowl too, but the yarn is superfine merino. Yikes. It's taking FOREVER!

  8. Your cowl looks so completely cozy, I love it! I suddenly got an urge to make a squishy cream colored cowl to add to my wardrobe. :) I love fair isle too, your hat is beautiful. Happy Wednesday to you, Karen!

  9. Love the crisp color contrasts in your hat and your cowl is gorgeous. Will it be one of those long ones you twist around your neck multiple times?

  10. Two beautiful projects, I am a great fan of fair isle. Still not reading very much other things take over.

  11. Mistakes and Fair Isle seem to go together, but once you get on a roll, it is great knitting! I love watching the design reveal itself.

  16. Lovely knits Karen. Working on a settler shawl and a hitchhiker here, with lots of hats and fingerless mitts coming up.

  17. I need to frog what purple I did at hip hop and go up a needle size. It's only 9 rows so I'm not moaning about it. I need to pick another "me" project as I'm going to wait to cast on my jumper for NaKniSweMo. Reading The Invisible Library - steampunk, YA, fantasy, and paranormal rolled up in one about coveted, old books.

  18. That is a very pretty cowl (did you share the pattern somewhere?), and I love the fair isle! At the moment I am reading Medicus for book club and The Secret Chord, hopefully before Monday, when I get to hear the author.

  19. Both of your projects look great. I love that pop of blue in the fair isle! So pretty!

  20. I would like to knit a cowl...yours is inspiring me. :) I finished The Girl on the Train while in Scotland and started Those Who Save Us, another WWII read. My knitting is a bit scattered of late. Lots of baby knits for wee Simon, and secret knits, but today I worked on a cotton washcloth which demanded nothing of me and for that I'm thankful. :)

  21. That book sounds interesting. I like your fair Isle. I did my first project this summer and found it easiest to hold one colour continental and one English, but my tension was quite slack. Any tips?
