Currently on the Needles

I started a new knitting project over the weekend when I remembered that I wanted to knit another sweater for the dog groomer's baby.  I love to knit for babies, the projects are speedy!  I love this pattern so far but I am not thrilled with knitting with Lion Brand Wool Ease.  The acrylic content is unforgiving in my hands.  However, I wanted this project to be machine wash and dry AND from my stash.  Hence the choice.

Shamefully, I am not finished with my previous book, The Daughter even though I had high hopes of increasing my reading every single day.  However - today is the day.  I'm less than 10 pages away and I have no excuses. Next up is this book in the photo, which I have to say, I love the cover art.  A pile of books?  Yes please.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. Your purple and gray combination looks great, and it always feels good to use up less than ideal yarn from your stash. I'll have to take a look at your books. I just finished In the Woods and am so angered by the ending that I want to immerse myself in a really good book so I can get rid of my frustration.

  3. Ooh, I love that book! Hope you like it too :) I've been working on the same book for a couple weeks now, I really need to sit down and power through the rest of it!

  5. i have this book downloaded on audible.....and for the same reason! I loved those books stacked up in her hands!!! Maybe I'll start that one next, too....and we can have sort of a read/listen-along. (I'm reading Alan Bradley's newest Flavia DeLuce and it's not grabbing me the way so many of the previous ones have. Can't win them all.)

  6. That cover is amazing! Looking forward to your review :)

  7. I love the color combination that you've chosen. I agree, baby knits must be machine washable so acrylic mixes are usually what I reach for as well.

  8. I am loving that cover as well! I am sorry that Wool Ease is not kind on your hands, however, knitting for those who just "wash and dry" everything is a challenge. I agree, it was the best choice. (And, yay for stash knitting!!)

  10. what a beautiful sweater! I'm sure they will love it. Yes, that book look great! I'm trying very hard to balance my reading and knitting. I do have a review book that I have to get done soon. But every time I get a minute I find myself picking up my knitting... :)

  11. Aren't the cluster rows fun? We're at about the same spot on our Mabels. I'm using Malabrigo merino worsted, and it's soft as a cloud to knit, though definitely not in the easy-care category. I really enjoyed that book, though I thought it was rather uneven -- much stronger in the first half.

  12. Love the baby sweater. I find it interesting that the Lion Brand acrylic is bothering your hands yet you were able to knit a cotton sweater recently. I practically had to take a double dose of Tylenol after reading about you knitting with cotton yet Lion Brand has never bothered me. Many other acrylics do, but not Lion Brand. To each, his own. :)

  15. That's an adorable baby sweater, Karen! I am just finishing up a long ago started top with just seaming and the neck band and arm holes to go, hoping I won't run out of yarn. At the moment I am rereading Cheaper by the Dozen. Funny but dated.

  16. I love the colors you chose for this cardigan. I'm excited for next year as I plan to just knit for my niece and nephew. I just started a YA fantasy/paranormal. I still need to get into the meat of it.

  18. Lucky baby! Acrylic hurts me too. Too bad wool is itchy! Colors are perfect as others have said

  19. Mm I'm a sucker for good cover art too, and that is good one! Nice colour choices for the cardi.

  20. So, do you recommend The Daughter?
I love cover on your next book!
I love to knit with wool, but acrylic has its virtues, especially for moms of new babies!

    1. The Daughter was "okay". I'm going to give it three stars. I overall enjoyed the book but the mother's cluelessness was a bit unbelievable for me.

  22. I'm still working my way through the illustrated version of the first Harry Potter but I'm about to start a history book of knitting in war that I picked up in England this summer. Happy Halloween! -Sierra
