Currently on the Needles

Good morning!

Oh my goodness, my knitting and my reading is swelling in overload.  I have some personal knitting goal deadlines for Thanksgiving. So I'm knitting once again a couple of mitts using the fetching pattern I adore.  I have this pattern memorized, burned into my brain.  That's the kind of knitting that feels like visiting an old friend.  You know, when you meet up with a buddy and no matter the span of time that has elapsed, your conversations fall into a comfortable rhythm.  So good!

Now onto the huge gigantic tome I'm reading.  My son mentioned in a conversation that he was going to start reading Alexander Hamilton.  Without thinking, I said "oh, I'll do a read along with you!".  My sister and my nephew are also on board with this read along.  My daughter is still "thinking" about it.  She is participating in nanowrimo and has limited time.  My book arrived on Monday and so I started.  Wish me luck on finishing before the year ends.

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  5. The Fetching pattern looks great, if it wasn't so expensive I'd be tempted to make some mitts myself. Love the idea of a family read along. Will you organise specific times for discussion about the book, or just read it and chat as and when, if at all?

  8. Knitting on some CRAZY ANNOYING socks and not reading anything. I WAS reading Jane Eyre, but about 1/3 of the way through....I just couldn't do it anymore.

The color of your Fetching mitts is lovely.

  10. Karen, I love the color of your yarn, one of my favorites! Good luck with the Hamilton book, I haven't attempted it yet. My daughter got it at Christmas last year and as of today has not yet finished it, LOL! Have you seen the book 'Hamilton: the Revolution' by Lin-Manuel and Jeremy McCarter? It is amazing, it contains the complete libretto as well as annotations by Lin and profiles on the actors. A beautiful book, worth having. xx

  11. I love how you're reading along with your son. I meant to do that w/my tween but forgot and they've finished a tame version of Beowulf. I listen to the Hamilton soundtrack sometimes on Spotify. I love the rapping. I probably learned a lot more about this president through song than I would have reading a book.

  13. What a wonderful idea...a family read-along! We read aloud together, but we've never done a read-along....hmmm. Will suggest that later today and see if we can come up with a book we're all interested in.

  18. That is a heavy duty read as is John Adams. I haven't read it, but our book club read the Adams book, and from our discussion I think that both show that there have been other ugly occasions in our country's history. Good thing we have knitting to lighten these stressful days, isn't it?
