Currently on the Needles

Can you see that snow?  I'm in snow heaven!  I measured about 25 inches out there when it was all said and done.  Quite impressive and the best part is that I still have electricity, what a blessing!

Alrighty, my knitting is nearly the same.  I am enjoying knitting my top down sweater and since I restarted it, I'm not making grave errors.  Phew!  I have about twelve rows or so until I separate the sleeves from the body.

I started a new project yesterday during my snow day.  My poor husband was snow-blowing all day so I started his cowl that he's been asking about since Christmas when I gave one to my son in law.  My husband picked out this madeline tosh merino light while in NYC in a yarn shop. (Knitty City)

I continue to read Maeve Binchy's Chestnut Street.  The book is a final collection of her writings before her death and is a series of short stories.  Bite sized reading!  I received Taproot Magazine in the mail this week and that is a savory kind of read :)

What are you knitting and reading this week?

  1. I have to say - I think you are the only one in all the blogs and instagram feeds I follow who is a FAN of all the snow :-) Also, very cool that your husband picked out the yarn himself (did he visit the shop on his own? I've been to Knitty City - can't think of a better shop for a husband to visit to buy his own yarn!)

    1. I am an oddity :) We were together and I led him to mad tosh yarn in fingering weight and said "pick from these shelves" I think he did quite well :)

  2. How lovely! I must say I'm glad it's not us getting more snow. My girls were so crabby when it lingered but has now all melted and they are running around without coats because I can't seem to keep the coats on them... such a fun project to knit what someone has picked out. Beautiful yarn!

  3. Love that yarn!
We don't have snow here, it's just CRAZY cold. At the moment, the "feels like" temp is two degrees. However, this does keep me in and knitting!

  4. I love snow too! And we have had frighting little here on the Front Range of Colorado! Just got my Taproot too.
Happy knitting and reading to you this week.

  6. So pretty - your landscape and your knitting. Very cool that your husband picked out his own yarn. We didn't get all that much snow - maybe 6", but a lot of sleet and freezing rain - yuck! I've heard really good things about Taproot magazine...thinking I need to subscribe.

  7. I was very homesick yesterday thinking about how much I wanted to be back in my hometown in NY state for the big blizzard; my brother sent me pictures of their 2ft. snowfall. Here in Illinois we haven't had much of a winter at all & only a few dustings of snow, it has been like one long April this winter!

  8. Your husband has great taste in yarn!
I was hoping for some snow but not 25 inches! We just got freezing rain. The trees, deck, porch steps, car door handles.... had about an inch of ice but it has been so warm just a few days ago that the roads didn't ice over. They were a little slushy but not solid sheets of ice. We lost a few trees but amazingly, they all fell towards the woods on the edge of our property instead of on the house or power lines. All's good here. Hope you enjoy your snow!

  9. Maeve Binchy was such a great story teller. Make sure to read her collection of short stories that her husband had published. I think it's called For the Girls (or something like that).

  10. I knew you would be a happy camper yesterday! I was so happy knowing there were so many knitting needles clicking away during the storm.

  11. I loved Chesnut Street. She certainly had some funny characters in that book. There is one very sad character. You'll have to let me know if you pick out on that made you sad too.

  12. That is a very impressive snow total, as is the devotion of your husband who cleared it all! I'm so glad you're knitting him a nice warm cowl in that beautiful yarn!

  13. We got about 18 inches here too. I love the snow, but wasn't quite ready for it to return with such a vengeance. But such is how it goes when you live in Maine :) I love the colors of your sweater and cowl!

  14. I love the yarn for Hubby's cowl. We only got about 4 inches of snow but a whole lot of rain. Hubby and I had a whole lot of slush to move around. I did have a snow day though.

  15. I am glad you enjoy your 25 inches of snow. We ended up getting 13 inches. But that puts us at 111 inches for the season. Winter can end now.

I am slowly adding all of Maeve Binchy's books to my Nook. I've read them all and enjoy them all.

  18. My goodness, with all of that snow staying in and knitting and reading sounds like a very good idea to me. Hope that your husband wasn't too exhausted after all of the work to clear the snow.

  19. aw He deserves the cowl..!!! I love the Taproot mag. My daughter had several issues at her place when we visited. Lovely paper and content. My husband is reading FIRE by Junger. Im reading 40 days 40 ways for Lent. Not liking it all that much but must keep on. Sometimes I like a thought or two for the day.

  20. I just picked up the new Taproot. It looks really good, doesn't it?
I really need to get back to the cardigan I started. There is something so satisfying about knitting a sweater.

  21. I'm very jealous of your snow! Stella will hit the UK tomorrow but it will be wet and windy. Perfect weather for knitting by the fire.

  24. Do you know, I had no idea that Maeve Binchy had died until I read your post. I'm ashamed to say since I enjoy her books, and she was one of my MIL favourite authors. The cowl that I just finishedwas knit from a skein of mad tosh that I also bought at Knitty City in NYC!! Great minds..... xo
