Weekends

Another weekend, this one was calm, slow and delightfully open for all my creative pursuits.  After the family visited last weekend for Easter, having a do-nothing weekend was perfect.

Saturday, I finished a book  Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny.  I enjoyed this novel immensely because it redeemed the questionable ending from the previous book.  Louise Penny has hit her stride in her storytelling in this novel.  Ack, I'm still mulling over the events and endings and the teasers for the next book.

While reading, I was working on my sister's sweater and completed all the waist shaping decreases.  My needles were on fire - I was knitting faster and faster as the plot twisted and turned.

Saturday afternoon, we went out for a walk with Frodo and braced ourselves for some chilly winds.  Spring, where art thou?

We attended Saturday evening Mass then picked up a pizza for dinner.  This has become a weekly ritual more often than not.

Today I've vacuumed which is challenging with the kitten and the dog, but I did it and everyone survived.  In the afternoon, I met up with my knitting friends where I always have a good time.

As I mentioned in my goals, I'm setting time aside for photography and getting outdoors.  Today the sun peeked out and I was there, witnessing and snapping photos before the sun hid behind some clouds.  Those tiny bit of rays were medicine for me, I felt happy and content.

Thank you all for your kind comments on my Book Talk interview over at Grace's blog.  Thank you all who are new followers, welcome!  Join in the comments, I read all of them and try my best to visit your blogs if you have one.  Lastly thank you to all of you that are long time readers.  Some of you are shy and quiet.  Some of you I have come to know dearly through years of reading your blogs.

All the social media in the world cannot replace what blogging does.

So, how was your weekend?

  1. Our weekend was great; it was the first one at home after out CO trip. Last night we had dinner out with friends, and this morning we sang a beautiful arrangement of "This Is Our Father's World" at 2 services with the choir and a wonderful violinist. Then we stayed and sorted music for a while before going back home an vegging out. It feels good to be back to our normal life at home!

  2. This weekend was chilly, but sunny and breezy enough that I could hang laundry outdoors and John rototilled the garden. The soil is quite wet and not nearly warm enough to plant, but I can finally see and enjoy some small signs of spring.

  3. I agree, I don't know where Spring went! It got really cold here this weekend :(
Glad to hear you had a chance to relax and enjoy yourself.

  4. Enjoy soaking up that Vitamin D! Your photos are lovely. Our weekend was a nice stay-at-home few days. We worked on our travel plans, went to church this a.m., made our usual stops for coffee on the way home. We walked yesterday under a chilly but sunny sky. Today was cold and gray but a warm up is coming this week. Hooray.

  5. Beautiful photo of the pinecone.

I am on Facebook and Instagram, but I find myself going there less and less. Blogging really IS my favorite form of social media.

  7. I love your sunny pictures! We had a good weekend, got lots of work done (replaced the kitchen ceiling, put in a ceiling in the powder room). The weather was good and sunny, but there was no time to really sit and enjoy. I should have. It's raining now (Monday morning)...

  8. Beautiful photos, Karen. Love that sunshine! We had a whirlwind weekend with NO knitting or crochet. I have a busy day ahead, too. At this rate, I'll be going into withdrawals soon! Ha! Hopefully tomorrow afternoon I will have some quiet time to play with my yarn. You'll be finished soon with your sister's sweater before we know it! Can't wait to see it. Hoping for a sunny week for all of us! blessings ~ tanna
ps I love the long time friends of blogging.

  9. Lovely photos! And blue sky!!! It was chilly here all weekend...and windy again. I think by next weekend it is supposed to be in the 70's though. I am so ready!! Glad you had a relaxing weekend.

  10. Your spring is looking much like our spring. We have the roller coaster weather going on for most of the month. Despite the rain, the trees are blossoming, the flowers are coming forth and the fresh green of leaves are starting to show. Spring may be coming slowly, but she is so beautiful!

  13. It was a deep cleaning (Spring) weekend for me and hubby. We both dug in and got so much done! This is the first time hubby had volunteered to help me knock it out! He vacuums very well to. LOL! I did zero reading this weekend because of the work. When I finally sat down I was too tired to focus on anything. Sunday evening we spent a few hours going through boxes of pictures we have taken over the years. {{sigh}} What memories!
We are supposed to have some warmer days this week. Hope spring reaches you soon too! :)

  14. "All the social media in the world cannot replace what blogging does." - so true! Though it is much easier to reach more people through social media, but blogging is so much more personal and allows you to be more "you"...

  15. Your sunny photos are lovely! I adore your little gnome. My gnome broke last year......
My weekend was reality time: I got on the scale. gained two pounds on the all inclusive vacation. We watched the Masters at a friends house. One of our friends is having a serious breakdown, and I was glad we could be there to be open about it with him. TO encourage him. TO let him know he is loved. It is tough to watch.

  17. Our weekend was fun! I was beginning to feel better on Friday, so after a visit with my brother and a phone conversation with my second brother I did errands, grocery shopping and came home. Hubby and I went to an auction and I found the cutest little stand with tole painting on top to use as a bedside table on the other side of the bed. Saturday I did laundry all day...Sunday church in the a.m. and then we had a wonderful evening together with one of my husband's co-workers and his family. Lots of fun!

  18. I spent mine nursing one of those horrible virus's that Hector left behind and then celebrated my 60th Birthday feeling a tad resentful. I have got over myself now and all is well once again in my little world.

  20. What an utterly perfect weekend you had! We are bracing ourselves for windy wet weather today after a beautiful sunny day yesterday which was just a tease as we are in for some wintery weather the rest of the week. I have not heard of Louis Penny and I am off to check her out --and your daffodils? They bring a promise of Spring!

  21. We had a great weekend! Mary came home with her boyfriend of a year. It was the first time he's been to our home and we had a really good time together. He is definitely a keeper; they are moving in together in May and I've never seen Mary happier. : ) I continue to be amazed that you are able to knit and read at the same time! Right now I'm mastering knitting and watching tv at the same time, LOL! Have a wonderful week, Karen! xx
