Weekends

black yarn = sad eyes
I am exhausted.  This weekend was packed with non-stop activity and I'm only just sitting down to write this blog post at 5:40 p.m. on Sunday, and I only just started the laundry.  My daughter and son in law arrived yesterday afternoon and we jammed the day with goodness.

First there was swimming in the pool and having snacks by the pool as well.  All those cloudy rainy days gave was to a picture perfect weekend.  We were due for some nice weather after a week of rain. Later, I cooked dinner (coleslaw, homemade mac and cheese and hot dogs on the grill).

After dinner we all drove the backroads to Knoebels amusement park to have a lovely walk about and to have some desserts while we people watched.  This park is wonderful in that you do not need to buy an admission to gain admittance.  Sweet!

We were hoping the flooding the park received would be cleaned up by the weekend.  The workers must have labored around the clock to tidy up the place because it was opened on Friday.

The amusement park has a museum of the different carousel animals and the dates they were crafted.  Also a museum of their personal history as a family-owned amusement park.

Today was busy with church, my husband's work obligations and of course my knitting group.

I am thrilled that tomorrow is a day of rest, Monday will be my Sunday, maybe!

How was your weekend?

  1. Yay for a park you can visit without admission. It sounds like a lovely weekend and I agree with Mondays turning into Sundays. My laundry is calling and family apparently wants feeding. It never ends. :-)

  3. The amusement park looks like lots of fun. I’m glad you had a good visit with your daughter and son-in-law. I feel like I’m on the summer count down clock. So much I still want to do and too soon we’ll be back to the school schedule.

  4. We had BioGirl's boyfriend visit and played Uber for their pick up from bar hopping with friends. Saturday was full of sewing and then Hubster made kabobs!! Yummy. Today was a drive south and back for our friend's visitation. So a busy and sad weekend. Glad you are finally resting!

  5. Have a very restful evening and peaceful Monday. How nice to have your daughter and son-in-law pop in for a short visit. Quiet here and cooler so I spent some time in the garden yesterday, church and the farmer's market today. I made two good light dinners of fresh veggies and fruit. We topped the weekend off with homemade peach shortcake this evening on the deck. Colorado peaches are now available in the grocery store and they are delicious.

  6. We, too, had a busy busy Saturday with family coming up to the Lake. It was really fun but rowdy and I cleaned thoroughly two days before and today , after. My mom always said to clean after the party, but she was ALWAYS cleaning her own house to the last crumb. I love that you got to the carousels. MY mom loved the horses on the merry go round!

  7. Glad to see Knoebels made out okay. The news was not looking good.

I had a Saturday out with Vera --- hiking, shopping, EATING! It makes for the BEST kind of weekend.

  8. I do not envy you the knitting with black yarn. I am only doing a coat hangar cover and my eyes were sore. You are one determined lady.

  12. Sounds like a lot of fun, but the non-stop thing would wear me out also, Karen. I'm beginning to slow down.

  13. How wonderful to have your daughter (and her husband) for a weekend visit! That amusement park looks like fun and I'm so glad the weather cooperated :-)

I bought some black thread today because it was on sale ... and I'm wondering if sewing with black will be easier than knitting with it (I hope the answer is yes, because I would love to add some black linen pieces to my wardrobe ... to go with my not-black hand knit cardigans :-)

  16. Wow! I'm impressed with your courage to knit a black... sweater/shawl/cowl??? Sorry - I haven't been doing a very good job of keeping up with others' blogs lately. Sounds like you had a busy & fun filled weekend. Glad the flooding was cleaned up in time for your visit. This summer's rain has been just unbelievable!

  17. Even looking at a photo of all that black yarn makes my eyes tired, but your son will love his afghan. Be sure and tell him about the extra love an effort that went into it because of the black yarn! :-)

  18. Look out weekend cuz, here I come. Your last shot is wonderful. Your daughter looks young like a college student; she is gorgeous. Is the tweedy yarn as soft as regular yarn?
