Weekends

How was your weekend? Mine was okay - I focused on lots of down time and keeping myself busy with reading, knitting and journaling. Our upcoming holidays look like we will be 'home sweet home', just the two of us.

Already I am brainstorming what to make for dinner without a lot of effort since I would rather be reading or knitting. I'll let you know what I come up with, takeout is in the running but I'm not sure they would be opened for a major holiday.

We walked on Saturday in brilliant sunshine and I wore lots of wool, it's nice to be in the fall leading to winter seasons where I can showcase my knits. On Sunday, the weather was down right miserable. The day was dark and dreary and in the evening the wind was howling away. Luckily we did not lose power, always a reality when you live in the country.

Frodo has been extra snuggly since it's been chilly. Even Miss Holly is sitting on the kitchen table watching me write in my journal in the morning. She is my morning buddy and Frodo is my evening buddy.

How was your weekend?

Psst: I am nearly done with the second sock!

  1. Yeah, it is going to be just us alone for Thanksgiving as well. Cases are exploding in Allegheny county... we have had well over 4,000 new cases since Nov. 1st. I am seeking contentment with staying at home. XO

  2. 'Tis the season for woolly walks! It is such a pleasure to be warm and toasty in your own handknits while chill winds blow around you. It's also a pleasure to be inside while winds and rain rage outside, but we've got blue skies today. I hope you do, too!

  3. How much longer will you be able to do your walks and hikes? Until ice and snow make it impossible? I think you may be surprised how many restaurants will be opened on Thanksgiving. Since they were closed for so long because of the virus they may need that day to help financially. We ordered from the grocery store one year and it was so nasty. We will never do that again. I vote for a good Italian meal for your Thanksgiving. PA has the best Italian food I have ever eaten.

  4. That was some crazy weather, wasn't it?

Steve was out on a "tree down" call for a couple of hours and came home soaked to the bones.

  5. Well done about the socks! A hard season but I am glad you are making plans! I would look into takeout for sure! ❤

  6. I think take out is a fantastic option! My kids will be here but we will be outside and socially distancing just like we have since March. I think I've decided to get a few platters for our day. It's just too much trouble to do the regular dinner being outside and without even having a table out there. I love your little Frodo and Miss Holly :)

  7. Woolen walks and sweet animals. Lovely! I think it will end up being just Fletch and me for Thanksgiving too. We were supposed to go to NJ, but neither of us are comfortable with that. I'll probably do the full Thanksgiving dinner just because I love it so much!!

  8. Isn't if fun to get out the hand knits and wear them outdoors? I love to wear my woolens when I walk. Before the pandemic, I'd wear a cowl or small shawlette and mittens or fingerless mitts to the grocery store, my women's groups, church, and errands. Now I am hesitant to wear them to the grocery store (pretty much the only place I go) because I'm afraid someone will cough on them and I don't want to wash them every time I go out. I plan to buy a turkey breast and make a few favorite sides for the two of us.

  9. I love weekends that involve knitting, reading, and journaling. We will have a quiet Thanksgiving. It will be the four of us. My daughter is a social butterfly. The more subdued holiday will be hardest on her. She will miss shopping and getting together with her friends. We do have a new puzzle to work.

  10. I was laying low all weekend, getting over a stomach bug. In a way it was a good weekend to be under the weather because the weather was under the weather as well! I'm getting a lot of embroidery completed and have nearly finished my Christmas shopping. Like you, I am loving the cooler temperature!
