Happenings

This week we celebrated my husband's birthday by going to the Van Gogh Immersion Exhibit. We loved the experience but it was very short compared to what we thought the length would be (expectations can be brutal). Also to celebrate, we stopped at the local bakery for a treat and on the way home we picked up pizza and wings. We had a lovely time and we both were happy to be doing something cultural in Pittsburgh, one of the benefits of moving so close to the city.

How have you been?

Winter keeps trying to be a big show-off but spring is edging her way in. The birds are singing, the daffodils are sprouting. We are warming up a little bit (but not today, brr). I love winter but I'm excited for spring time and some lighter clothe wearing. Even Frodo walks with a jaunt in his step when he doesn't wear his doggy coat.

I am fully recovered from the stomach bug, for some reason fatigue was a huge factor for a week. Yesterday on my walk I felt like I had the energy to walk.

Can you believe Lent has started? I am reading Edith Stein's biography in the coming weeks amongst other things to observe Lent. I'm also bundling my news reading and other internet rabbit holes that are pervasive in my day into blocks of time instead of dribbling throughout my day breaking up my concentration. I want to be informed and entertained but let's keep in contained!

I have family coming over for dinner tonight and I want to get out my spring household decorations. Sadly my knitting energy hit an all time low during the virus and recovery. I'm hoping in the coming days I can get back into a rhythm of knitting and being excited about the knitting. Maybe a new project?

Thanks for your comments and for visiting this space.

  2. Cold here this morning too. But 60's forecast for the weekend. Happy belated birthday to your husband. Fletch and I loved visiting Colin and Mailing when they lived in Pittsburgh. So much to see and do!! Glad you continue to feel better and hoping your knitting mojo returns pronto. I'm stash diving (again) this morning and getting inspired!

  3. Your birthday celebrations sound like a nice day out. I'm also looking forward to some more spring. I've been seeing lots of birds and some daffodils beginning to sprout but the temperatures and winds are still cold.

  4. I am so glad you are feeling better. I saw a commercial for something like that Van Gogh immersion exhibit here. It really looks cool. So glad spring is on the way. We expect to see Daffodils around here soon as well. Glad you had a good week. Enjoy dinner with your family. See you again soon.

  6. I am glad to hear that you are feeling a little better. I do hope your knitting mojo returns soon, being worn out and fatigued is not conducive to knitting. I hope you have a lovely dinner with your family.

  8. Our weather is about 24 to 48 hours ahead of you (central Missouri). It's going to be a nice warm day (cloudy with rain tonight)...
I think the seasons are wonderful. I love summer but by mid August, I'm ready for fall (which is never long enough). Then winter by mid January I'm ready for spring! LOL!
Glad you are feeling better! I think the older we get the recovery of such illnesses is more difficult. At least that is what I have experienced this past year.
Have you gotten to see that new grandbaby yet? I hope I didn't miss that! Is the baptism coming up soon? I hope you and Frodo have a greet weekend!

  9. What a nice outing you had. We had a smidge of rain here and it's cold. Supposedly M & Tu will be 70 and then the weather will slowly go back down again. I used to live for cold weather. This year I kind of want it to be a bit warmer so I can wear my me-mades instead of having to layer up all underneath them. I've been slowly working on my vintage dress pattern of late.

  10. I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. It's so frustrating to be tired and feeling yucky.
Your outing to Pittsburgh sounds like so much fun. I hope that someday I'll make it back there and go to Primanti Brothers!

  11. Your outing sounds very nice. I have heard good reviews from a few friends who saw the exhibit when it was in Kansas City. I'm glad you are feeling better. I hope the knitting mojo shows up and you are off on a new project.

  12. I’m so bad at researching stuff that I hardly have any expectations when visiting a place, and then I am either pleasantly surprised or I end up missing out on a big part of the thing altogether. I’m so glad to hear you are feeling better. It’ll feel nice once you feel more energetic, but try not to feel bad about taking it easy!

  13. Hi Karen,
...that St. Teresa book looks interesting...I'm kind of named for Mother Teresa...she was in the new a lot when my Mom was pregnant with me...haha...and I've read the Story of a Soul...in French...there are a lot of St. Teresas...and I'd love to see the immersive Van Gogh...
    ~Have a lovely day!
