Weekends

Oh this weekend was filled to the brim with family and food.  We packed up the car and headed to my dad's for our Thanksgiving feast on Thursday which is the best day to drive-no traffic!  We sat and talked and ate.  Afterwards we exchanged our Christmas gifts.  My dad loved his new pair of wool socks (and he was wearing the pair from last Christmas--I think I know what I will be making again).  My step mom loved her citron shawl, you know the brown one that was silk and wool.  How exciting that she knew what outfit to pair with it! I gave my sister the orange wurm hat and the orange cowl.  She never knits for herself always for others so I had to remedy that.  Everyone needs hand knits.

On Friday, my sister and I did a yarn crawl and had fun with being together.  That's the best part, I just don't know what I'd do without my sister.  Oh and driving all over the greater Pittsburgh area-I sure did see some brilliant scenery. She had a little gingerbread house making party that evening and saw more relatives and friends and ate more food.

Yesterday we headed home through snow and slick roads for the first two hours.  I started laundry, unpacking from the trip AND decorating the house after unlocking the door and cranking up the heat. We just finished the tree this afternoon.  I will be heating up 1/2 a turkey that my dad gave us and creating another mini Thanksgiving feast before my son leaves to go back to campus after dinner.  Our daughter returns to her apartment tomorrow.  In less than a month, they will be home for break.

It was so nice to have a break from the internet but did I ever miss all of your blogs!  How was your weekend?

  2. It sounds like a beautiful family weekend!
And such lovely autumn colours in the last picture - we've had so much wind, all the leaves are gone from our trees.
In Germany you don't put the tree up until the day before Christmas Eve, or thereabouts, so that's how we've always done it. Still a while to go. I'll be getting the decorations out next weekend though, ready for the first Advent Sunday. I can't believe we're there already!

  6. I am intrigued by a yarn crawl, do you just go around hitting all the yarn stores? That sounds like a great way to spend some time and having your sister at your side must have really made the day great.
You were in snow already? I am so envious, tomorrow we will be 68 degrees, that temperature makes it hard to get into the holiday mood.

  8. What a great idea, exchanging Christmas gifts at Thanksgiving. I might have to try to convince my parents/siblings to try that some year. (Of course, that means I will have to start making sooner, too, doesn't it?)
I'm glad you had such a lovely time. xo

  11. We were on the road for the holiday, too; and while the visiting is fun, I'm always happy to get back home! You were much more resourceful after getting home than I was, Karen! LOL! I still need to pack up Thanksgiving things before I can drag out the Christmas things. I LOVE that you have a sister who enjoys the yarn hunt with you! I think that would be the most fun. blessings ~ tanna
