New Pencils and Fellowship

My weekend was full of visiting goodness.  Our daughter was home for the weekend and her request was to have nothing on the schedule.  How easy is that?  We ate a simple dinner of sandwiches on Friday night after driving back and forth from her apartment.

Saturday found us at home for the day, knitting, reading, talking, laughing, sitting on the swing doing most of the same outside as we did inside.  The temperatures started to climb back up into the high eighties as did the humidity.  For dinner, we ate at our favorite local Italian restaurant.  That evening we watched Les Miserables (the movie).

Funny after that musical, the song stuck in my head is "the point of no return" from Phantom of the Opera, wonder why??  I'm enjoying the music loop so it really doesn't matter.  Our son called and joined in the family fun, being passed around to each family member-almost as if he was here as well.
He's compiling a list of where to apply for grad school.  I keep teasing that I would like him on the East Coast.  As a mother, I feel that I can express that.  As a person I hope he gets into the school of his dreams (on the East Coast...ha ha ha).

Once I publish this post I will be attending the mundane list of errands and tasks that were put off during the weekend:  laundry, cleaning, bill paying, yarn winding (that is NOT mundane).

just bought those pencils and thought they looked pretty in the late afternoon sunlight

How was your weekend?

  1. Your pencils do look beautiful in the sunshine and remind me of the scene in "You Got Mail" when Tom Hanks talks about a bouquet of pencils.

My daughter, Hannah will be going off again soon, travelling for a bit and then to London to do an MA in gothic literature. I'm glad that she'll be only an hour away. It's so hard isn't it? I'm missing her already and noticed that she keeps me longer in her room for conversations recently...so deep down hope that she's aware of the coming separation again too...

I hope your son's grad school is both, on the East coast and the school of his dreams.

  2. I remember compiling the list of where to apply for my MA - it seemed such a big deal, a bit daunting and then along came the PhD and it was just the opposite. Funny how that works. Wishing him the best of luck.

And yay for pretty pencils basking in the light!

  4. Love the pencils!

We had a nice weekend. A good balance of relaxing and activity. And trying to to stay as cool as possible.

And yes - you have the parental right to "influence" your son's graduate schooling choice!

  7. Oooh, new coloured pencils are such eye candy!
It's funny, after watching les miserables, I got the "one day more" song stuck in my head. But instead of the way the song actually goes, i kept thinking of it with this spoof verion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9QbC41oQRo

  8. Pretty, pretty pencil.

East coast schools are the best aren't they and of course you want you son close by. I wish him the best of luck in his future.

I hope you are staying nice cool. I saw on the Weather Channel where you were really being hit by the heat wave. Take care of yourself.

  11. Sounds like an excellent weekend. The pencils look beautiful, but the colors make me want to knit, not draw.(well, I can't draw ... there's that.) Anyhow, I just read this post right before yours: http://katieleigh.wordpress.com/2013/07/15/finishing-les-miserables/ you might be interested?

  12. Hurray for new pencils and a relaxing weekend! Hearing about your time with your daughter really makes me miss my mom. Once I went home for Thanksgiving and told my mom I didn't want her to cook a big dinner--I didn't want us to have to spend all our time in the kitchen! Talking and knitting are the best ways to spend one's time:) Best of luck to your son! My mom joked that she knew I'd go to Berkeley because it was the furthest away from home. That's not why I picked it, but it did turn out to be a great place for my parents to visit!

  16. Fun pencils! What are you going to do with them? Hope your son gets the school of his choice and that it's not too far from home! We call those 'stuck songs' ear worms.
