A Kind Week

As quickly as life becomes overwhelming busy and full, a lull appears and days are slow, easy and kind to me.  This week has been kind.  Each day was mindful and purposeful.  The weather has been mild and reflects early autumn, chilly mornings followed by a sun that tries to heat the day.  Our daily walks after dinner as slowly coming to an end as the sun sets earlier each day.

The salads that I craved in March are giving way to warm piping hot soups. Menu plans are altered to reflect the seasonal shift.  I have an acorn squash in the frig with my name on it and I've already stir fried some sliced brussel sprouts in olive oil-yum!

Since August was the month of relocating kids, my yoga routine slipped away from me.  I am reinstating that little bit of time for myself and my joints and muscles thank me.  Surprisingly, I haven't lost much of the flexibility I gained.  Again, a kind week.

If you were to snoop on my iphone you would find many many photos of the leaves turning colors.  Frodo now knows when I stop that there is a moment to capture.  He is a trained photo assistant.  These photos that I'm sharing today are from my sister's garden with the big camera.  I had fun walking around snapping photos and missing my photo assistant.

How was your week?  Was it kind?  What are you embracing as the season shifts?

  1. Loved reading about your kind week..."kind" is such a good way to describe my week, too! There was just enough time, to rest, sneak in a yoga class, finish Light Years by James Salter and start a new knitting project in between all the activity. I embraced cool temperatures and clouds as the sign that it's time to get out the fall sweaters and wool socks. :)

  3. Your slow and purposeful week sounds like heaven to me! These last few weeks for me seem so rushed and "go go go" all the time. I know things will slow down again, but right now I feel like I'm stretched too thin... The weather has begun to shift here in the south as well. Cooler mornings and evenings feel so good!
Enjoy a slow and kind weekend!

  4. I love your use of "kind" as a way to describe your week. My week has not been especially kind, but perhaps I need to express more kindness myself to make the upcoming week a kinder one. The sure signs of fall approaching are definitely helping!

  5. A salad for lunch [I think of you when I sit down to eat] and now vegetable stew for dinner, twice this week. I am so happy the cooler weather made it here, did you hear me squeal? My exercise has taken a big hit this week. I woke this morning hoping to put on my shoes and walk for miles....with this toe? Not today, it hurts, thank goodness for knitting and I think some yoga is needed here too. I hope you have a kind weekend too Karen.

  6. sounds like you are really able to live in the moment....appreciating your surroundings. our days, too, are finally shifting...cooler in the morning but cool enough to drive off the swarms of mosquitoes that look at me as their last supper. i think they know their days are numbered and i'm counting them! (and wouldn't you know.....an acorn squash made it to my refrig this week-----and we're working our way through a big bag of brussel sprouts...i love them oven roasted!

  13. Very sweet.
I wish it could cool down enough for soup around here. : (
Karen, I was a yoga teacher for many years, just mentioning cause you connected with the word "yoga" on my blog, too. I eventually had to stop yoga because it was actually too much on my body. I got "over stretched" to put it in a simple, basic way and I think I do have back issues left over from other teachers pushing me into poses, (when I was just a student - not a teacher- and didn't know enough.) Now with a much wiser understanding, I am getting back into it just a little, gentle yoga and the like. It's all moderation and I seem to get that more the older I get.
    XO

  17. How beautiful, Karen! I love those quiet weeks. I am excited that fall is coming your way. It felt a little cooler this morning (60 instead of 90!), so I put the baby in a long-sleeve onesie and celebrated:)
