Noticing September

September has been for me a month of contrasts.  Yes it's still summer but you know keep down that fall is around the corner.  The black walnuts are sprinkled on the roads and I believe that the squirrels sit up in those trees and try to pelt me as I walk by.  Frodo would love to catch a squirrel, I think it's on his bucket list.  By the way, he's feeling much better now.  I babied him, tried to help him up and down on the couch and took it easy.  He appreciated the effort and now is back to running and chasing that favorite frisbee.

September is a shift in the light in my house.  I walk by and see the shadows dancing and have to take a photo.  The house has been quiet and clean, instead of piles of books I see empty surfaces.  I've tidied up corners and spaces, thinned out papers, and made new lists for fall of what I'd like to accomplish.

September starts as summer and ends with fall.  Each morning I'm greeted with mist, you know the kind that makes your hairy go all wonky.  One day soon, the mist will have a chill and I'll see my breath.  Capris and shorts will give way to jeans and a sweater, I'm patiently waiting for that moment. I've spotted yellow leaves dropping, along with acorns.  I hear the crickets, locusts, and cicadas in the afternoon, deafening at times. I appreciate late summer as I age and yet my love for fall and winter deepens.

Have a good weekend :)

  2. I am IMpatiently waiting for the mist to chill! I am generally rather patient with the seasons but I am anxious for this one to move onward. Not sure why.

  3. Twinkie would love to catch a squirrel too, but he doesn't realize he is the size of a squirrel.
I am ready, ready, ready for cooler weather, bring it on!
    Have a great weekend Karen.

  4. Your pictures are beautiful, Karen. I love them all...I especially enjoy watching the changing of shadows at this time of year. And that first picture of the clouds...do you look for shapes in clouds? The one on the right looks (to me) like a bird perching in a tree top. ;) Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

  5. You're so observant! I usually look for fall with cooler temps, but we definitely do not have that here this week. I have noticed squirrels busily burying acorns and heard my first flock of geese last week, so maybe fall weather will be here soon!

Seams to me that the sun is richer, deeper in color...here the fields are golden, I love this time of year.
    Have a lovely weekend.

  7. Your thoughts on September are lovely. We are having a warm spell-- mid 90s today-- but I spied fall on our morning walk- those yellowing leaves you mentioned. I too am looking forward to the cooler weather, though I will miss the sunshine that we get in warmer weather.

  8. September is lovely and often October is, too, but I'm a summer girl and miss the warmth of the sun. I miss the sun's light even more and the shorter days often have me singing the blues. Good to hear Frodo is well. Enjoy your favorite seasons!

  9. I swear the squirrels here try to pelt me and Rufus with acorns on our walks. I'm glad I'm not alone in my squirrel conspiracy theory.

  10. Just about right on cue September first, the skies lost much of their gray muggy look and turned blue. Can't wait for the cool down predicted for tomorrow.

  11. What a lovely post -it beautifully evokes this time of year. The weather here is a mixture of all seasons at the moment - tshirts one minute & jumpers the next! Frodo is adorable, by the way :)

  18. We had a big rain and a "cold front" as the weatherman says. I'm sure we will go back to the dog days of summer... but, the feeling was definitely in the air. Glad Frodo is feeling better. blessings ~ tanna

  19. I stopped by here because I noticed the photo of the Mini Schnauzer, I've had two in my life, thinking of finding another... or some other small dog! Your knitting is absolutely beautiful. I tried knitting one time, gave up! Just like you, I am enjoying the change of temps in my part of the country. Have a great day!
