Weekends

Weekends are for memory making,
relaxing and enjoying quiet moments of our days.
If you would like, please share your weekend moments
in the comment section with a link to your blog.

And just like that we are down to two humans and one little dog with spunk.  This weekend started off with our first Saturday in a while of being just us.  We drank lots of coffee in the morning without a second carafe brewed, read the paper, knit (well that was me) and read books.  I'm starting off strong with my "read more books" for 2015.

When I sit and knit, I am staring directly at my beloved rabbit that my sister created for me and a lovely painting from my daughter for my birthday in November.  I love to create focal points and take great pleasure in soaking up the beauty.  I do not miss the Christmas decorations a single bit.

Today was Mass, the Epiphany.  However that cute baby was sitting in right in front of us and I heard "the three wise men (gurgle, gurgle, smile, squeal) and they gave the gifts of the earth (smile, smile, scrunchy eye face, gurgle, giggle) and the Magi left with a gift of heaven.  I must say, I have trouble concentrating but I love the entertainment :)

Dinner was breakfast and dessert was more chocolate.  I've eased in salads once again for lunch and have weaned myself off of the daily cookies.....baby steps. Tonight will be more knitting, reading blog posts and passively listening to a football game.

How was your weekend?  Care to share??

  1. I love what you write about focal points. It's something I could put more work into. Changing things around. I have a few spots around the house I especially love, but except for the mantlepiece I don't really change things around much.
Sounds like a very relaxing weekend to me, perfect! Both my kids are sick so the weekend has been a bit blah! But my hubby's off work for the next week, too so we'll catch up on relaxing then :)
Have a good start to your week!

  2. FULL! I have set about getting my stuff decluttered and organized. The closet under the stairs was cleaned out really good, much donated to the church yardsale, and very little put back in! Now, it being January I. MUST. GET. THE. TAXES. DONE! {{you cannot even believe how much I hate tax time}}
Wish we could have a salad. Mister's diverticulitis is greatly affected by it so we don't have it here at home. Only if we go out do I treat myself to one! NOT missing those sweets at all! :)
Sounds like you have had a really nice weekend! :)

  3. Your weekend sounds lovely, Karen! I know what you mean about not missing the Christmas decorations one bit! We put ours up the week of Thanksgiving this year because of our son's family being here then, so I was ready to take down the decorations on New Year's Day. I also completely understand about concentration and cute baby entertainment! You described it so sweetly. :) And a side note...I LOVE that quilted wall hanging...wish I could see the entire piece (hint, hint). ;) Have a wonderful week, Karen. Oh...and would you please be praying for me tomorrow (Monday). It is rather important. Thank you so much.

  4. Here we spent the weekend taking down Christmas decorations and generally doing household chores! Not very thrilling! I have a rabbit - not a Maggie rabbit like yours - but mine has a dress in the same fabric as yours! I love your rabbit! xx

  5. Our weekend has been busy! Spent yesterday helping out with the GK, and then today had to be at church extra early to practice the anthem because our usual rehearsal day was New Year's Day. Luckily it was a piece most of us know and like. Now it's relaxin' and thinking about putting away the rest of the Christmas stuff since as you said it is Epiphany! Happy New Year, Karen!

  6. What a wonderful sounding weekend. I too have started my goal of reading more off with a bang, one novel done, and the second one started :) There was time for knitting this weekend too, working on a hat for a friend. Must get back to work on my sweater at some point soon.

I am not missing the Christmas decorations either, our home feels so spacious with them all put away :)

Wishing you a lovely week Karen. xo

  7. There was a lot of knitting in my weekend and I loved it.
I just couldn't take the sugar anymore and quit with the treats last week. I love that you do baby steps, but it just doesn't work for me.
I am not missing the Christmas decorations either, I love seeing empty spaces!

  8. Karen, your home looks so cozy and inviting! Love the little glimpses you give us here and there. :-) We enjoyed our last weekend before going back to school/work tomorrow. We still have some Christmas goodies around but I'm trying VERY hard to stay away from them. The two weeks we were home I indulged way too many times. Back to healthier eating now!!!

  10. What a wonderful weekend, I was feeling a little fed up with sitting about so I have started the de-cluttering that Christmas invariably brings.

  11. Ahhh.... I finally got around to putting away the Christmas decorations. I love the openness, too. ;) And, then I dug in my stash and started another crochet project. Simple repetitive tasks... good for the soul. blessings ~ tanna
ps I love your knitting view. =)

  12. Sounds like a lovely weekend Karen... our tree and it's twinkling lights is staying up for few weeks (we are deprived of light on the west coast in the winter). As for the weekend... i've gladly returned to some much needed calorie busting exercise and preparing for a special sunday challenge.

  13. You may have just solved the mystery of what to do with a front room that now feels somehow empty, thank you! Here's ours. http://adeolainwonderland.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/weekending.html

  18. I don't miss our Christmas decorations one bit either. I do miss my kids a bit, as they are back to school today. It's a bit hard to believe the holiday has come and gone. I'm am loving the wide open spaces though ~ I hope your new year is off to a good start.

  19. Sounds like a good weekend and return to quiet. Love your bunny — I've made three of them and had a hard time giving them away so your sister must love you very much ;-)

  20. Oh I really enjoy your return to pace with this weekend. My husband swept up all the Christmas decorations New Year's day into a box and poof! Green and Red was gone. I was a little sad at first as our routine still felt ... holidayish, but like you with the weekend, I was grateful "the gaudy" was gone ;) This weekend found me a lovely day out with my son in Golden Gate park, some exercise and a lunch and trip to Alcatraz with my family and my husband's Aunt. It was a really nice way to end the holiday cycle.
