Weekends

Weekends are for memory making,
relaxing and enjoying quiet moments of our days.
If you would like, please share your weekend moments
in the comment section with a link to your blog.

On Friday, my sister and my brother in law arrived and the camera, social media and the internet was set aside.  I relished the entire weekend!  I wish I had a photo to share but the apples will have to do and you'll have to conjure up in your imagination how lovely my weekend was.

We had dinners at home along with a yellow cake with chocolate icing. Conversations overlapping with news of family and friends, ideas of projects for the spring (still on about the painting before the wedding).  Lunch out, driving in traffic with windshield wipers that have reached their end.  How do I know?  The rain was endless.

My sister and I talked about living life fully.

Do you? Do I?

I guess the question is, "what is living life fully?".  For me, focusing on the positive (I'm confirmed child of the glass half empty camp), filling my days with what I enjoy doing, having something to always look forward to, learning something new, being out in nature, being with my husband, my children,  my sister and other family members, outings with friends, counting my blessings.  So I do believe I'm living my life fully. However, there is room for improvement.

How was your weekend?  Did you live your life fully?  Be sure to check back in the comments when others post about their weekend, if you have the chance.

  1. I am not sure I am living life fully at the moment. I spend most of my weekends quietly, a little bit of sports, weekly shopping, knitting, watching TV, going out for a beer or to dance every once in a while. But I almost never do something slightly bigger, like get on a train and go somewhere and I think I should do that more often, because even though it's less relaxing it's much better for battery recharging...

  2. I certainly try to live life fully, noticing the blessings in my life helps, and connecting to nature. I also find connecting to myself through meditation to be important. And of course connection to people, who I love, and who love me back.

A good weekend here, a day with friends, and a day at home. Oh and a Saturday night, spent chatting with a girlfriend, in which we stayed up much too late. Kinda felt like a teenager again :)

    Have a lovely week Karen.

  5. I thought of you enjoying being with your sister and I am so happy you had that time.

I am all about living life fully, not taking one single moment for granted. I have lived too long on this earth to not know just how life can change in an instant so I don't want to waste any of the time I've been given.

  6. How nice that you were able to spend the weekend with your sister and brother in law. Mine is coming this summer for a few weeks and I am so excited!! I try to live my life fully, but just like you, there is always room for improvement. Sometimes I need to remind myself that certain things can wait in favor of being in the moment, enjoying time with family or friends.

  7. After the amazing weekend I had (it was my birthday weekend) I feel like the most fortunate and loved person on earth. Friends and family shared so much love with me and I hope to live my life in a way that deserves all they give.

  8. I'm with you - I totally enjoy living my life fully. I think it's a different experience for each of us. Though I love spending time with family and friends, I relish being alone at times too. I'm glad you had such a nice weekend.

  9. I would like to think I try to live life fully, but I'm sure I don't. I am trying to be more patient and understanding with my daughter, but even then I have to remind myself as patience doesn't come easily for me.

  10. I think sometimes life can be too full to be fully lived ... mine's a bit like that at the moment.

  11. Sounds like a good weekend, always good when you fill it with family. I like to think I live my life fully as fully as I can anyway, there is always room for improvement.

  12. Oh yes! Living life fully has been a recurring theme in my head (and journaling) for the past few months. For me it means noticing the beauty in the everyday moments; focusing on the present moment; being with my husband and girls; taking time for me & doing the things that brings my heart joy; and looking on the positive side. I too am a child of the glass is half empty & anxiety. It's gotten bad lately. I am looking for ways to get through it!

  15. Hmm - well, I have the best intentions of living my life fully. I like your guidelines and I would say mine are about the same, but I have a habit of focusing on what I SHOULD be doing and not doing what I like. I need to meditate on that a bit and decide what living MY life fully means to me. I love the idea of having something to look forward to. Thank you for your insight and making me think about it Karen.

  17. What a beautiful weekend! And I love your pretty header! What a wonderful question to ask. I consider the answer to be yes when I am present in the moment instead of worrying about the future or even the ten things I need to get done before sundown. These days I have been spending time just rolling around in bed with Micah, tickling him and enjoying his sweet baby laughs. Then I most definitely consider the answer to be yes:)

  19. Lovely apples, Karen! My weekend was lovely, dinner with old friends on Friday night, rainy Saturday spent in the house with my husband, watching basketball and having a simple dinner, Sunday out again with chorus friends to see Pentatonix (an a cappella group) in concert. I try to live my life fully; it may not be terribly exciting (I tend to be a homebody), but I am very content! xo

  20. My weekend was great... starting with attending the quilt show in Lancaster on Friday, then doing some antiquing on Saturday. Sunday at our house is almost always a day of rest after attending church, of course. So, I can say, we had a great weekend! Glad you enjoyed yours, as well!

  21. what a nice prompt. I live life LESS fully. When I worked in intensive care I was encased in stress and worry and caring for the baby, the other nurses, the parents, the grand parents, the new nurses.
Retirement lets me live so comfortably. I volunteer at the shelter for myself and for the animals, I read, I knit , I love to read and write my blog and read others, I try to leave positive comments.
    I try to pray more.
Im still getting used retirement and what I want. Pets help me live fully. I see their living in the moment

  22. I think I USED to live fuller... maybe it is just part of aging... But, I am grateful for daily blessings... and like you, my life is filled with things I enjoy. Still, I too, think there could be improvement. One of my dearest friends who has departed this life used to say, "Always content, never satisfied." ;) blessings ~ tanna

  24. I am trying to move from the cup half empty to seeing the cup half full. Some days it is a bit slow going, BUT focusing on the blessings definitely helps to keep the proper perspective. Glad you had such a lovely weekend, Karen! Sweet time with your sister...I know how much you enjoy that.

  25. I've been thinking about this very topic myself recently. I read somewhere (I think maybe ot was Zen Habits) to write down the four or five things that are most important to you, and if you're not spending most of your free time on those areas try to change things up so that you are.

  26. Such a lovely post and a great question. I used to think that living life fully meant doing a lot of "stuff." Now I've accepted that my cup is drained if I over-do, and I live a full and wonderful life enjoying the busy times and the quiet moments equally. Funny, having cancer switched me to a glass half full kind of gal. My mom, who I care for, can be of the opposite camp. Makes for some challenging moments.

  27. What a lovely weekend. I can totally relate to being surrounded with loved ones and missing a moment to capture it with a photo. That's a time when I try to write things down afterwards so I can at least read about it later and enjoy.
As for living life fully, I try to live life every day. I try to enjoy each minute, whether it's doing fun things with family and friends or just having a quiet evening with my knitting, I try to relish each moment, rather than just filling my days. Admittedly, I'm a glass half full kind of girl. :)
