Weekends

My weekend was quite nice.  We spent the day with our daughter in her small town yesterday.  Our town is smaller and so there was an adjustment to the traffic, the sitting, the waiting.  Sometimes I wish I had those fancy stores in the "big" cities, but then I'd have to sit through a couple of lights to get where I'm going.  So I'll take the slow town where I'm creative where I shop and I arrive to places lightening fast.

Today has been the same kind of Sunday as always.  We went to Mass-I cannot believe that Palm Sunday is next week! The laundry is half way done and I threw together some kind of dinner that turned out okay.  I stir fried asparagus and mushrooms in some oil and served it over left over buckwheat noodles and thin spaghetti (I raided the freezer for those left overs).  My husband had some of my dad's homemade sausage and I had salmon. Delicious!

We ran out of desserts, except chocolate-that alone is a necessity of life.  Anyways, I've cut down on the sugar and I feel so much better and sleep better.  Do not think for a single second that I've given up sugar completely, let's just say that I'm being mindful of what goes into my mouth.

Tonight I'm going to knit and spend time with my husband, we cycle through on Netflix:  Foyle's War, Doc Martin, 30 Rock, and I just heard more Mad Men is up.  So who knows what we'll watch.  We are NOT watching golf....

How was your weekend?

  1. A night of knitting and TV watching sounds lovely! Your dinner sounds yummy. Asparagus is always delicious. :) Yes, I also can't believe Palm Sunday is coming up! Spring is here!

  2. I have trouble when I go to the 'big city", all the traffic gets to me as you know ;)
Golf? oh no, never. My sister told me about the show, Parenthood, and while
it is no longer on air, I am watching it on Prime, [she does Netflix], I really like it.

  3. I am definitely a small town girl by heart. Driving in big cities makes me very anxious and I can't wait to get out of there. We're heading to Atlanta this week and I am already dreading the traffic... Our weekend was spent at Lowe's (more home improvement projects in the works) and at home. Too rainy today to really do much, but I did get some cold hardy seeds into the ground before it started to rain.

  4. Hooray for small towns. If I have to wait for two cars to get out of my driveway, it's a traffic jam. Golf? Our television only gets basketball during March Madness. I'm counting the minutes until this season is OVER!

  6. your weekend always sounds so lovely... we finally made it home last night and we are all enjoying puttering around the chaos of our messy home today. It is chicken, potatoes and salad tonight

  7. Watching golf on TV is as exciting as watching paint dry.
We moved from Long Island a few years ago where the traffic is unbelievable to upstate NY where we drive mostly on 2 lane roads - definitely more my speed.
If you're trying to cut back on sugar, why not try baking using half or a third of the amount the recipe calls for? I've been doing this and so far, everything has tasted fine.

    1. I love that you assume I'm baking :) I buy really unhealthy sweets so those have stopped entering into my house!! I will try some recipes and cut back on the amount of sugar, I like that idea immensely.

  14. Love the photos. It's good to catch up with your daughter...we had a similar weekend although it started with an eclipse that we had fun trying to photograph and Persian New Year. Then we spent the weekend with Hannah in Bristol...lots of lovely shops too and good food. The best bit was catching up with her and all the lovely long conversations.
    Have a great week,

  21. My mum and I watched Doc Martin last summer and loved it! There are quite a few benefits to living in a small town, even if it means giving up some of the fancy stores.

  22. My weekend was quiet, which was just what I wanted! Foyle's War is a very good show.... Your time with your daughter sounds nice! It makes me excited for visiting my sister soon. Isn't it nice to see those you love? :)

  23. I prefer a small town too, although we do have lights in our small town the queues and waiting are always short. I had a busy weekend, time with friends and six hours playing with an orchestra!
