Around Here

Around here I've slipped into a slow and easy schedule where I start my days sipping hot coffee in the quiet of the morning while I write a bit and pray a lot.  These spring days feel more and more like summer days.  I watch mid morning as my shamrocks do their sun salutations to the sunlight.  If plants were people I think they would be happy and positive, thankful and reflective.

Around here I'm loving the color yellow in my kitchen, in my food and the daisies that grow wildly on the road side.  I see potential knitting projects in color combinations where ever I am.  Yellow and white, yellow and gray.  I muse and ponder and dream.

Around here the days are cloudy.  Thankfully when the skies were blue and welcoming, I snapped a photo noticing and embracing a clear endless sky with wispy clouds.  We are in a drought watch and yet it is drizzly dreary and rainy most days.

Around here, I fit in time to walk with Frodo and my husband. This is where we catch up on the kids, our days and happenings.  I notice changes in the neighborhood and woods.  The peepers (frogs) are done peeping and now the crickets have started.

All too soon, the cicadas will begin their music mid July.  Really?

Around here, I decided to knit a wedding shawl and thought first that I had until next Friday to have it complete for a bridal shower.  Now wait a second....the shawl will have to be blocked!  So now my deadline is Wednesday.  I'm excited to be under a little self imposed pressure.

Have a wonderful weekend!!

  1. Around here summer has descended with a vengeance, it's HOT! Our highs are in the 100's and our low's are in the 80's :( I'm ready for winter.

I think it's great that you have a weekend of knitting ahead of you. I know you will get the shawl finished and it's going to be stunning.

  4. I love when I take the time to slow down and soak in everything around me. It makes life so much happier and enjoyable! I CAN"T wait to see your gorgeous shawl! I've never done knitted lace work. Although my crochet skills are advanced, I've only been knitting for about a year so I'm still learning and there just doesn't seem to be enough time to really learn anything new. Oh well. It's the season of my life. :)

  5. Knitting a shawl during your time as Mother of the Bride has to be a good diversion/stress reliever/distraction. And this is your one and only daughter, and she HAS to be given a handknit shawl, no matter if she decides to wear it. It is the keepsake that matters.

  8. Love all the bright and beautiful pictures in your post. I think we have got our entire years precipitation this week! All the rains coming up from Tropical Storm Bill. Last night alone, 2 inches in the gauge.
I have given up on the sock. My heel flap didn't look anything like the one in my pattern. S1 P1 all the way across and P back didn't look like it should have. Maybe later... I will try again.
looking forward to those lazy evening walks with Mister. The rains won't allow it now and when they are gone the hay must be done....then walking... :)
CanNOT wait to see this shawl in completion! Have a great weekend Karen!

  12. We are in a drought here, too. No fun. Everything is so dry and the river is lower than I've ever seen for late spring (looks like August). Happy knitting, Karen...I know you'll get it done by Wednesday and will will look forward to seeing it all blocked and ready for gifting. :)

  14. It definitely feels like summer here, our temps were in the upper 90's and should be in the low 100's by midweek. We're supposed to have rain today and tomorrow and I would be so happy if that turned out to be true. It is much needed! Have a happy, knitting weekend! :-)

  15. It's been cool for June here, but I'm not complaining, I don't do heat. But to think that we're almost half way through the year ... where has it gone?!

    Happy knitting :)

  17. The summer heat has hit here in Phoenix (115 today) so we are hibernating, which is a good thing for me as I now can finish up a few WIPs.

  18. What a summery post! I love yellow in and out of the kitchen. I have an obnoxiously bright yellow sweater I like to wear to work, especially with black. It makes me happy.

Good luck with the wedding shawl! I'm sure it will turn out great.

  21. Around here, the weather doesn't know where it's at although nature seems to be coping... I don't enjoy really hot days (or nights!), especially as they are so often accompanied by stifling humidity, so I will be very happy if the temperature stays below 25C and we don't have TOO much rain. But this IS England, after all ;-) Looking forward to seeing the wedding shawl - hope you will have time to take pix!
