Ordinary Little Things

Last night as I snuggled into bed, I listened to the rain.  We haven't had a good soaking rain in quite a while so listening to the dripping from the gutter was a treat.  My hair...well let's say it's frizzing up and doing it's own thing.  I'm just ignoring the mirrors for the time being, it works.  The fleece jacket has been worn and even some fingerless mitts, this season makes a hard core knitter happy. The ordinary little things make my world go round.

My backyard was raining yellow leaves today, so beautiful!  I love how yellow leaves lead the march towards winter.  Next up will be the oranges and reds.  The kids went home on Monday and I had a day of adjusting to the regular home.  Setting the home back to the way it was helps with the adjustment.  Knitting does too.

Just so you know, Fall is officially here, because Frodo is sleeping on the sofa and NOT under the ottoman.  Delightful!

In my Magnificat magazine, there was an article about Junipero Serra who was canonized a saint by Pope Francis during his visit in the USA.  Junipero Serra had the motto "always go forward and never turn back".  This motto resonated with me. I love the positive affirmation those seven words state.  Here is a link about him.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

  1. Our yard is covered in yellow and brown leaves and lots and lots of pine needles. We are also expecting a few days with highs in the 60's, makes me very content and happy. :-)

  2. I am enjoying the season, but surprisingly we are having a little sunshine at the moment so the hats and mittens are back in the dresser temporarily. Frodo certainly knows how to make himself comfortable.

  3. Cute Frodo.

My hair also disagrees with humidity. I don't know why I am not more of a hat person....

  4. Fall has taken over the mountains and is making inroads into our valley. Leaves will soon start to rain down in our yard, too. Frodo looks cozy with his legs all tucked in. My little guys all slept in the same fashion.

  5. Frodo is so adorable curled up on the sofa like that! We've had some good rain here, too, and I've started keeping fingerless gloves in my work bag for the office. Fall is definitely knitter season!

  6. It's that time a year...I wish we would get some rain- we need it so. Your little Frodo has the right idea :)

  7. We dug out the hat and fingerless mitts for our walk this morning, first time. It was wonderful! The yellow leaves are slowly falling around here too, and I can't wait for the blaze of colour to come in the next few weeks.

I love that motto too :)

Have a wonderful weekend Karen, I hope it is filled with good things.

  8. I cannot even fathom where September went! October! Well, I do love Fall so don't mind the change to a new month, but I want Fall to slow down and at least let me enjoy as much as I did not enjoy our never ending hot and dry summer! The little things make my world go round too.

  9. Your Frodo looks so cozy! Wish I had a doggie to snuggle up with!
We started to get rain this past Sunday. It is now Thursday and it hasn't stopped. And it won't until some time over the weekend. They are predicting a hurricane. I hope "they" are wrong!

  10. I hope you have a great weekend my friend. I am watching the rain fall, and just heard Jim Cantore is headed to Charleston, they say we are going to receive 12-18 inches of rain, sigh. What a mess.

  11. How do you resist curling up right next to Frodo? He looks so comfy! I have been running around crossing things off of my to do list before we leave for Sedona and Vegas on Saturday. Hoping that Joaquin stays far away from us! xx

  12. Sounds as though both you and Frodo are enjoying the change of seasons! xx

  13. What is it about fall? Seems to be a favorite season of just about everyone, including me. :)
No mitts for me, yet. It's warm here, unseasonably at that. They are predicting it to be 80 this Sunday and Monday...crazy. Nice for wrapping up outdoor projects, but I'm ready for chilly, hot cocoa days.

  15. I'm happy that fall is officially here. Took me about a month to accept that it was coming, and I'm loving it now! Sometimes the best moments are the Ordinary moments.

  16. I love that motto too. I loved the way the pope's visit made me feel. I wish he'd come more often as a reminder of all things good. We have rain here in NY and there's quite a nip in the air as well. Good day to stay indoors with a good book. We're very happy the hurricane that was predicted looks like it won't be hitting land here. Happy Weekend!

  17. I think we have some maple trees here and I see the leaves slowly turning color. We had light rain here two days ago. That was a surprise. Supposedly El Nino will give us a long visit this winter. I love your Frodo. He is darling. That was interesting to read about Pope Francis. In the city I often used Junipero Serra to go home.

  18. We are finally have our summer really warm days (for us anyway) and our leaves are resolutely green for the moment. Our seasons have gotten a bit mixed as there were definite yellows in August when it soooo cold. I too love that quote, have a lovely weekend too!

  21. Great post, Karen. It feels like fall and it's quite drizzly today. I am just catching up after being gone for 10 days and saw your beautiful raspberry sweater. Great finish!

  22. Always forward! I like that quote. Yet, we also shouldn't look too far ahead, either, I suppose.... In any case, glad you're enjoying the seasonal transition! I know that I am as well :)

  23. Oh dear Frodo, how cute you are! What a wonderful quote, Karen and such good advice. Autumn is such a cosy season. Happy weekend to you! xx

  24. The ordinary little things make my world go round.... love that sentiment. I'm just the same! And also big big autumn lover, so I'm in my happy place right now. Have a lovely start to your week Karen!

  25. Karen, I feel the same about that quote and jotted in my journal (in Spanish). Enjoy those falling leaves!
