Weekends

in the comment section with a link to your blog.

This weekend we visited our son up near the Boston area.  My weekend was jammed packed and non stop.  I think it'll take me a week to recover!  Friday night we were out and about in Cambridge, we did a bit of shopping and of course ate dinner.  The cold weather returned and let's say it was brisk!!

Saturday morning we headed out to Concord to see the historical town and of course some super cool houses.  The one above is Louisa May Alcott's home...yup.  Totally neat.  Standing there taking a photo of her house knowing that she was standing there way back when looking at her house too.  I felt a kinship of sorts.  I wonder who will be taking photos of my house 100-200 years from now.  History was my LEAST favorite subject in school, how could that be?  I love it now.

Pizza was our lunch choice and after walking about in the chilly weather, it was nice to be in a warm restaurant.  We drove over to the Old North Bridge and again enjoyed the history and the beautiful scenery of the autumn season.

After all that history, we went to Ikea.  The best place ever!!  I know it doesn't have any 'old time' feel but that store just inspires me to clean and organize and live efficiently.  I love walking around there.  We bought some new silverware since I've been unable to find anything I like locally.

We left early this morning to head home before the traffic.  I love to visit a city, but my oh my, the traffic is horrendous!  I guess we are used to what we live.

How was your weekend?

  2. History was my favorite subject in school and my mom made sure she took us to lots of historic places growing up. Back then I didn't really appreciate it as much, but now I'm so glad she instilled a love of history and "old" things in me. Would love to see that area for myself one day!

  6. Thank you for sharing your photos of Boston. I visited oh so long ago but missed the Alcott home. Perhaps that means we need to travel east again. I hope the start of your week is peaceful, full of crisp autumn days.

  7. What a lovely post! I agree, there's nothing like stepping into a warm fragrant restaurant when it's chilly outside. We're still hoping for a bit of chill out west...

  9. She was one of my favorite authors. I need to reread all of her books. It's trippy how those tombstones are so skinny. They have this wonderful age about them. I'd love to visit Boston one day as I know there is so much history there.

  14. I've never been to any of the historical sites in New England...lots in PA, but nothing further north! Need to remedy that. How fun that you got to go and stand in amazing places, Karen! My weekend was filled with our church conference and knitting!

  15. You should have told me you were coming to Boston - I for sure would have met you at Ikea! The traffic is the biggest reason we don't go up there more often. It's awful. Glad you had a fun time!

  16. How fun to visit such contrasting places for your adventures!!! I've never been to Massachusetts and am grateful for the mini-tour (I have to get there some day!) I love all the colours and energy in IKEA - too bad about the surrounding traffic.

  17. I love visiting Boston, as there is history to be seen at every turn. Our city was only settled in 1847. It's amazing your area is 250 years older than that!

  18. Sounds like a fun trip! I also hated history in school, but as I have grown older I grow to love history more and more. Hope you have a slow week and get a chance to recover.

  25. I long to see the East coast in fall--your pictures are so lovely! I share your love for IKEA and have a son who currently works at the one down the hill from me. He is a great enabler--whispering after work one day, "Mom, the Christmas stuff is in" ! IKEA has caused me to fall in love with my husband's scandinavian heritage--especially at the holidays.
