New Year Intentions

Good morning and Happy New Year's day to all of you.  Don't you love the newness of this day.  It's shiny and bright, unblemished and the whole entire year is rolled out in front of us.  I love January 1st.  Along with the beginning of a new year, I see a chance for improvement and growth.

New intentions, old intentions, both resurrected.  I've been in list making mode the past few days.  Writing thoughts down to paper makes the goals real and justified.  So here it goes, my ideas and focuses.

Health:

-I received from Santa a great new cookbook and I've been reading the chapters here and there and want to incorporate more whole food cooking in our diet.  This cookbook is good, I love the recipes and the photos and how "doable" they are as I read them.  I also think we will both like eating them.

-Yoga every single day.  That about sums it up.

-Eating less sugar (who me??)

State of Mind:

-practice living in the "now" and quit borrowing the "what if this happens in the future" thinking.  I battle this one all the time but whenever I'm engaging in that slippery slope of thinking, I'm going to stop, breathe, re think my thoughts.  Baby steps!!

-pursue more creativity through drawing and watercolors.  I bought the supplies and even my sister bought me some lovely watercolors.  Let's dive in this year!!

Simplify:

-I have an incredible urge to purge some closets and corners of my home.  When we painted the main level for the wedding,, I loved that new look feeling.  So I want to continue that feeling and clean out what I do not need or want and give it to someone who put it to good use.

Knitting:

-I'd love to finish this blanket before the first day of spring.
-knitting more would be a silly goal but I do love to knit a lot so I'll throw an easy intention in.

Reading:

-read diverse books, expand my comfort level of genres.  Read more??  I read 30 books last year and I loved that I made time for reading.  So I'll repeat this goal.

So there you go, a list of intentions.  After I hit the publish button, I'm un-decorating the house and opening up clean wide empty spaces.  So good.

What are you planning for the new year?

  1. I like the word intentions a lot better than the old new years resolutions term. Seems like those never last long... A new year does feel like a clean slate, the possibilities are endless!

  2. Good goals for the coming 12 months. Do you follow a special kind of yoga programme or do you just do whatever you can think of? I've been quite good during the holidays but once I'm back at work I find it more difficult to find time for it every day.

  5. You've crafted a lovely list of intentions for your heart, mind, soul, and hands. I'm often sliding down the same slippery slope of "what if" thinking, but will also be trying to breathe and rethink. Happy 2016 to you!

  9. I love your list. It’s inspiring! I too, try to do yoga every day. If I do a long yoga set I don’t do my '7 Minute' workout app. If I do the 7 min then I do short yoga with it. Feels good! And creativity and knitting abound for 2016! And yes, mindfullness. Every day. Love that. Happy 2016!

  10. Happy New Year! Your list is really good and it sounds very attainable. I also will be making yoga one of my main goals for the coming year and I also need to purge and reorganize (which will probably take me all of 2016!) Looking forward to your wonderful posts and Happy Knitting!

  11. Happy New Year! These sound like great resolutions. I especially hear you when it comes to simplification. For me it hit me around 2 weeks ago and I've been getting rid of almost everything in the attic and spare room and it feels fantastic!

  16. Happy New Year - planning travel, writing, reading, knitting, putting the stash up onto Ravelry and tracking projects on it and getting a kid through the new school year starting in 3 weeks (he hates school!). And surviving a class in the school library with me (we've run out of room for all the new students!).

  17. Intentions are a much better idea than resolutions that is what I make a list of too but have never called them that! Your list is full of wonderful achievable intentions I hope you enjoy achieving them, let's face it if you don't enjoy them they will never happen, right?

I try not to have so many intentions, but I have decided that this is the year to get out of my comfort zone ;)

  22. I love your intentions. Mine are along a similar vain. I love that knitted afghan you are working on. Have a great new year and may 2016 bring many good things to your family!

  23. They sound like wonderful intentions - especially the knit more! I'm working my way through the same cookbook so it will be interesting to see what you make of it and from it :)

  24. All great goals. I could only hope so much for myself. A very ambitious list! I know you will rock t, though.

  25. I love your goals. I'm also a list maker (I posted 16 for 2016 on my blog, so I won't repeat them all here). But one of my goals is to learn to knit. I'm pretty terrified and keep justifying why I would fail, so if you have any easy beginner patterns, I am happy and eager to hear. I loved your hat (from insta) but that might be a bit too complicated starting out. Happy New Year to you and yours :)

    1. look for a simple scarf, maybe knitting every row (garter stitch) with worsted weight wool. Are you on Ravelry? there is a wealth of info there and lots of free patterns.

  27. Hi Karen, Just stumbled on your blog and love your style. In particular the knitted afghan looks amazing. I am keen to use some of my wool stash and wondered if you could share the afghan pattern or let me know the name so that I can purchase a copy. Happy New Year to you and yours.

  28. Happy (a bit late) New Year dear Karen. I'm like you... there is something about that morning on January 1st. It's always so fresh, clean, a perfect place to start.

Quite an ambitious list, but I'm sure you can do it.

What do you mean by "read diverse books, expand my comfort level of genres"? I have a history of loving strange books... Maybe I have some ideas for you. :-)
