Ginny Yarn, Blanket Progress and a Spring Visitor

Did you know I was one of the lucky ones to buy some of Ginny's yarn? Yup.  I'm kind of excited about it.  I've been searching through ravelry looking for THE pattern.  I've got a few in mind but haven't committed to a specific one.  Sometimes the daydreaming and the wondering are enough. I do have it sitting right beside me so I can stare lovingly at it occasionally.

Oh the blanket!  It is slowly growing and chugging along.  Every single night I commit one hour to it.  Last week, I tormented myself with "how much do I have to knit before it's 5 feet by 5 feet?".  I loved not knowing and imagining I was close.  Well....I did the math.  Right now it's 4 1/2 feet by 4 1/2 feet and I'm nearing to the beginning of the round.

I have to knit two times more around and that is......wait for it......almost 1000 MORE yards.  Yikes!  It's a very sobering number and kind of depressing.  So I agonized and tried to decide, do I want to frame it with two different wools of the same color, you know finish it off pretty like.  I just couldn't decide, so I decided to not decide.  That was the best decision.  I'm just going to keep on knitting with my scraps and hopefully one day I'll finish it.

I also gave up the idea of finishing by spring.  The pressure was too much.  So now I'm happy with my blanket once more.  What a crazy idea to make a blanket out of sock yarn on size four needles.  Honestly, I must have lost my mind.

I was in the local yarn shop (like I need more yarn....) and listened to a lady tell of seeing seven robins!  I looked about and saw deer.  However, I did hear a robin or two.  So while I wait for a real robin sighting, I give you my son's origami hummingbird.  Too sweet.

My daughter is visiting in March while her husband is at a week long conference.  I am excited about this, sometimes the unexpected is simply the best.

Have a lovely weekend!

  4. It's always a tree getting new yarn! Your blanket is simply amazing (I know I've probably already said that, but it's worth repeating!). 1000 yards is the equivalent of two pairs of socks worth of yarn. That makes it sound a little less daunting. :-)
