Dear October
Dear October:
I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am that you are here. I've waited for you patiently over the summer months while extended heat waves lingered. But now you have arrived and so far you have been glorious.
The maple trees are losing their leaves yellow and brown first, the red just starting to appear. Each year I'm captured by the beauty. The mornings are crisp and sometimes chilly and once again fleece coats are donned before a quick run to retrieve the newspaper.
At first yellow is my favorite color, then red, then orange, then the browns and purples. I guess I like all the colors that you bring to me. The mums are in full bloom being show offs now that the summer flowers have faded away. I like their attitude. While car riding, the rolling hills on the countryside display the changes leaves. Oh so pretty.
I get sad thinking of how my after dinner walks will be coming to an end during your month. Each walk is numbered as the days get shorter and the nights get longer. However, I'm wearing a bit of wool which brings a smile to my face.
In the evenings I'm snuggled under a scrap sock blanket and knitting away. Adding rows, enjoying the process. I've already made an apple pie and have plans for a pumpkin pie. Waiting for you to arrive has been exciting and I hope I appreciate you every single day.
Take care and stay glorious, your faithful friend :)
I am often surprised how much purple there is in fall. It sneaks up on me every year! Lovely pictures!
ReplyDeleteI never noticed purple until I did an autumn photo challenge and then I saw purple everywhere in Autumn.
DeleteI also love October. It is quite blustery here today and I have plans for knitting and podcasts this afternoon. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteno bluster here but it's jacket weather!!
DeleteI'm so happy autumn is here too :) - wonderful time of the year. Your ode to autumn is lovely.
ReplyDeleteYour house decorating shows your love of the season!
DeleteBeautiful photos, Karen! And, I join you in giving a BIG welcome to October! I simply love this month for so many reasons!
ReplyDeleteIt's about time October showed up :)
DeleteI think Autumn has forgotten to come to the mid-west! Here in Illinois we still have temps in the 80s & it's humid...yuk! I'm worried the cool, crisp Autumn days that I love will never arrive. I can't wait to start wearing jeans & a sweater!
ReplyDeleteI hope now you have a bit cooler weather! I wish I could send you some :)
DeleteBeautiful photos, Karen. I love having Autumn buddies, enjoy every bit of it! xx
ReplyDeleteWe have to stick together :)
DeleteYou have captured the very essence of Autumn both in your words and pictures. It is such a beautiful time of year. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteI hope your weekend was super!!
DeleteOctober is my last happy month. I don't like the dark or the cold of winter. I DO love the colors of October and the beauty you show here.
ReplyDeleteI am lucky that the dark or cold doesn't bother me a bit! I'm glad for that.
DeleteLove this post Karen! I too love October but never thought of serenading her quite like this! Soon we will smell those leaf piles burning on a cool crisp day! :) aaahhh, yes, fall!
ReplyDeleteSerenading is a must when you are amazed at nature!
DeleteBeautiful post, Karen! And I love your photos! I feel exactly the same way you do, but I guess mine is Dear November to be at the same point in fall in NC as you are now. Enjoy every minute of it! xo Tammy
ReplyDeleteNovember is creeping slowly in...!
DeleteOh, your post is so beautiful and so perfect for autumn! I love all your flowers!
ReplyDeleteThank you Cheryl!
DeleteI am so happy in Autumn, Karen, just like you! : ) It is the most wonderful time of the year!
ReplyDeleteyes!! It's looking mighty fine :)
DeleteAdore the fall and all its glories. Had pumpkin pancakes tonight. yum! only pecans would have made them better...but too many cals in that to add
ReplyDeletepumpkin pancakes sound delicious!
DeleteBeautiful photos Karen. October is a fav of mine and I am soaking it up. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are soaking it in, and I'm not surprised it's one of your favorites.
DeleteWow... And totally loving the autumn colours, I fully agree !
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jose!
DeleteNice mums Karen. I hope the week is treating you well! May there be many pumpkins and squashes in your future.
ReplyDeleteLovely fall weather here. Perfect for outdoor knitting. Sigh.
Glad you are knitting outside over there!!
DeleteAutumn is the BEST!
ReplyDeleteAren't those scrappy squares addictive. I'd rather knit them than anything else, but I must finish socks so I make more scraps!!!
I am edging very close to being done with my blanket...I think.
DeleteBeautiful photos! Today is our first truly fall feeling day. Hurricane Matthew cleared out overnight & left us with beautiful cloud-free blue skies and sweater required temperatures. I'm in Heaven!
ReplyDeleteGlad fall is visiting you and Matthew is leaving!
DeleteA wonderful ode to fall. I need to try to make apple pie from scratch this year.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing like a homemade apple pie (but I did cheat on the crust...I can make it but chose not to!!)
