Weekends

Happy Mother's Day!  I hope you celebrated with your mother, grandmother, sister, and/or children.  My weekend was nice.  I started celebrating my motherhood on Thursday with dinner out and since then every day has had a mini celebration of sorts.

Yesterday, my husband and I went shopping where I purchased a purse that I've been thinking about for two weeks.  Yes.  I anguish on certain things- you see, I have many purses!  So of course I added to the collection.

At Saturday night Mass, the Council of Catholic Women gave each woman a carnation for Mother's day.  That was an unexpected delight.  Flowers make the world a better place and can make just about anyone smile.

Today I did the laundry as early as possible so the rest of the day was my time.  I sat and read a poetry book, Blue Iris by Mary Oliver.  I thoroughly enjoyed the quick read.  I balled up some cotton yarn for a soon to be shawl probably for a Christmas gift.

In January, we switched our local paper to a digital subscription and since January I've been saving and trying to print the puzzles.  My first few printing tries are "fuzzy" which I've since corrected.  So I'm tackling the blurry ones with my mental acuity and vision skills.

I just returned from Rita's for an ice treat (wild black cherry!).  So now I'm drinking hot tea to warm myself up again.

How was your weekend?

  1. Sounds like a nice, relaxing weekend. Other than dinner out with friends and Saturday morning Torah study, I soaked up the sun in the backyard. Lots of knitting and embroidering!

  2. Rita's sounds yummy! How sweet of your church to pass a flower out to each mum. I used Araucania once, its Pomaire Multy which is discontinued, for a fringed scarf for one of the tween's old classmates in the city. It was easy to knit up. I want to see your purse! What do you look for in a purse? We just got back from Mom's Tofu; we had our favorites and I didn't overeat. So I'm digesting right now before I shower and before I make my last cup of tea for the day to take with my vitamins.

  5. Happy Mother's Day! We had a quiet weekend - church where the Brass Ensemble always serenades at the end of the service with a slow "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" down the aisle and then sets up in front for a jazzy Dixie Land version. It has become a Mother's Day tradition that we love. Face Time with the grandsons today. I knit and took walks in the sunshine both Sat. and Sun. I also attended a baby shower for a sweet friend of my daughter. My knitted kimono and book were a hit. I love to give knitted baby gifts.

  7. It sounds like a delightful weekend, and I love your idea of mini-celebrations! Your red yarn is beautiful, and I also enjoyed Blue Iris. Mary Oliver's collection of poems about birds, Owls and Other Fantasies, is another wonderful collection.

  8. Well this sounds like one of the best weekends ever! I love the color of your yarn, btw.

Have you ever tried the Rita's gelato with wild black cherry ice and chocolate frozen yogurt? I was extremely skeptical, but a friend convinced me to try it last year and all I can say is ... OMG!

  9. My husband announced a week ago this past Friday that we were having Mother's Day WEEK around here...and that dear man did something special for me every day. Yesterday was church in the morning and evening and we just relaxed and enjoyed talking with both of our kids in the afternoon. :)

A new purse sounds pretty good to me! :-)
I have a "thing" for purses, but they have to be just right. In other words, I have to be able to carry "my life" in them.
I love the color of this yarn. It will make a beautiful shawl.
    Have a wonderful week.
