Knitting News

Yet again another week of chatting about knitting.  I've been focusing on cowl knitting - yes, I'm crazy to be knitting with 100% wool during a heat wave.  My secret is simple, I have AC and I have decorated for fall in my house.  So in my mind, there is not a heat wave!  You can trick yourself into any season.

Currently I'm reading The Bat by Jo Nesbo.  Someone recommended this author to me, but I have to start at the beginning of a series.  Have To.  So while this book isn't as good as further along books, I'm excited to be with a new detective.

I am nearly finished the The Long Way Home by Louise Penny.  I'm a hard core lover of Three Pines and Chief Inspector Gamache.  As soon as this book is finished, I'll start another one.

What are you knitting, crafting and reading this week?

  1. My knitting is confusing me as I can't decide what it is. I'm knitting either a cowl that will be long enough to wear double, or a long scarf that I will put tassels on. It will either be for someone else or for me. The latter is looking more likely. I just can't get into reading lately. I start and discard one book after another. Currently I have Into the Water by Paula Hawkins, I'm about six pages in so no opinion as yet.

  3. I can sort of fool myself, but only until I have to go outside! Thank goodness I'm only knitting small wool blanket squares. They are wool, but not large enough that they make me sweat by covering my lap. I hope to finish this weekend and then maybe have cool enough weather to get back to my Match & Move.

  4. I love those sunflowers!
I'm working away slowly on a pair of socks, a hat, and a sweater. I don't feel like I'm making much progress on any of them.

  6. Not a lot getting done here at the moment. I don't need to kid myself it is blowing a gale outside, I am just about to light the stove.

  7. I am with you on trying to fool myself that it is not like a blast furnace outside... until Sherman has to go out! Then we are both miserable and extremely grateful for the AC. But, I think this heat wave breaks tomorrow! I am hopeful!

  8. I am still working on my TTL mystery shawl and have only about 8 rows left before the bind off. I knit only one row yesterday and stopped because I was so uncomfortable in the heat & humidity even with the AC on! I'm ready to get this done and move on to a new project!

  9. I love the sunflowers in your banner! When I think of September days, I think of sunflowers and apple trees. I like Louise Penny, too. When I was young I read mysteries exclusively. On my needles is the Grandpa Cardigan by Joji Locatelli. I'm knitting it in The Yarn Collective/Bloomsbury DK color Moss.

  11. I love detective stories! I'm currently reading/listening to Pachinko and I'm knitting a very light weight scarf I forgot was in progress from 2 years ago? I was looking for a needle gauge so I could start a baby sweater and then I saw it and thought, what the heck is this? Well, now I know and I've been carting it around w/me for the past 24 hours. I'm also trying a few new cake recipes this week. Chocolate. :)

  12. I love the sunflowers in the banner. I ditched a mystery I was reading because I wasn't enjoying it. I went back to my summer reading list and picked up a book I bought in Concord, Mass. - Mosses From an Old Manse. I've just barely begun. I finished my blanket squares and am working on some mittens with a bit of unraveling going on. The top decreases were not centered so the cable on top of the hand was off center. Back on track - again.
