Weekends

Look!  That is the most beautiful acorn ever seen by me - the promises of fall arriving are right there.  I'm giddy just thinking about it.  How was your weekend?

Mine was quite emotional, my father in law passed away Saturday night after nearly a full week in a trauma unit after a fall down the stairs.  Thank you for your prayers and positive thoughts.  He lived a long full happy life.

Today, my husband and I drove to State College to see our son for lunch, and the afternoon outing was a perfect diversion after a stressful week.  We ate at a ramen place and I slurped my messy soup with gusto.  I cannot manage my chopsticks like my husband or son, but I did my best and I was grateful for the ramen spoon to help me along.  They put fresh greens on my soup and I liked it!  Gave me some ideas for home cooking.

In the knitting front, I am one to two rows away from finishing the searing pink shawl (yay!).  I love knitting shawls, they might be my favorite item to knit.  Tonight I will cast off.

We have finished many tv shows:  The Americans (recommend but violent!), The Crown (recommend) and The Handmaid's Tale (recommend but disturbing at times - I look at my knitting).

How was your weekend?

  9. Oh dear, I didn't know about your father-in-law, and I'm sorry to hear what happened. I'll keep him and your family in my prayers.

I want to visit State College, as everyone says it is so lovely. But it would have to be on a non-football weekend!

  10. Condolences and peace to you and your family.
I enjoyed The Crown, but haven't watched many other shows. TV and summer just don't go hand in hand for me. I love the radio (and my own iPod). My favorite knits are shawls and socks! I heard the acorn crop is very large this year, which give me hope for a snowy winter (I'm only thinking of our draught and the water situation in the west, as I don't like winter.)

  11. Prayers for your family Even a long life well lived is sad to see end. We are wrapped up in baseball and only baseball here! It has been horribly humid, but I dont mind it. The a/c is on. I go on the porch, then return to the cool house. ITs all good

  19. I'm sorry your FIL passed away. There are some whole acorns around here but they're long and skinny. The first time I saw them we were going for a bike ride and I was so amazed b/c in the city I would only see the caps.
