Knitting News

I grabbed some cotton kitchen yarn on my way out the door to babysitting and was delighted when the pops of color appeared when I started knitting.  You can never ever have too many dishcloths if you ask me.  I picked up this skein at a Hobby Lobby when I was out and about with my sister over the Easter weekend.  I've never been in a Hobby Lobby and loved exploring, if I was feeling better, I probably would have spent way more money there.

I know you all are asking, 'but Karen!  Where is your sweater?'.  The sweater is waiting for a skein of yarn to be delivered.  I'm kind of okay with the break from the sweater dilemma and the yarn shortage.

I also added some inches to my Holly inspired shawl at work as well.

I started a new book a week or so ago, Summer at the Lake, so far I find the characters interesting and it's a slowly evolving romance but not overly romance.  My kindle book is Code Name Verity.  This is my treadmill book that entertains me.  I cannot imagine being on a treadmill without a book!  I only started this novel on Monday so it's early days in the plot.

What are you working on and reading?

  1. Oh I love making washcloths or dishcloths though I should make some more. I've made a few scrubbies which are good for taking off makeup. I read Summer at the Lake a while ago but sadly am struggling to remember it. I know I enjoyed it, definitely, I love Erica James books and have just ordered the latest from the library to read. I've read most of her books but wasn't so keen on Tell it to the Skies. Enjoy your book, Cx

  2. I knit on a baby cardigan for my niece's new baby arriving in August and a project for a charity. I am still reading The Forest Lover (book) and listening to the latest in the Maisie Dobbs mystery series - "The American Agent." Both are keeping me entertained. I haven't made any wash cloths for awhile but I should, some of mine are looking rather ratty.

    1. I've listened to a couple of Maisie Dobbs books - they are brilliant. No modern phones or computers - can't imagine life without google now Cx

  3. I wish I could read on the treadmill. I begin to feel ill immediately if I even try. Same in the car. It’s podcasts and audio books for me.

    1. I can proudly walk 3 mph without getting queasy -any faster and it's a slippery slope!

  4. That is fun yarn! I'm working on a couple of shawls and some socks plus a quilt. I just finished The Worst Hard Time about the dust storms of the thirties and am now reading about the Johnstown Flood. Interesting history but not real uplifting; I did also read The Day the World Came to Town which filled in the need for something uplifting, especially since it occurred because of 9/11.

  5. Love that shawl! And that's a really great cotton to knit dishcloths with, I think. You're right, you can never have too many of them. Both books sound very interesting, I'm going to see if I can find them!
I'm still knitting the sunset shawl and after reading a quite depressing non-fiction book, I picked up some short stories by Agatha Christie. Needed some light reading ;-)

  6. Love the shawl and the dish cloth. Is that the scrubby yarn? It's pretty knitted up but looks like it would be horrible to knit with.

  8. A good friend of mine just introduced me to knitted dishcloths! What a fantastic idea! I am going to have fun making them for stocking stuffers.
Have you read The Summer Before the War? I just finished it and really liked it a lot. I think you would as well. xo

  10. I am the family dish clothe knitter. My sweet MIL use to knit all our dish cloths, I do not believe I have ever bought or used a store bought dish cloth in my married life. I have five done thus far this year, will need about 16 for Christmas. Great camping and car knitting project.

  11. I'd like to knit more dish cloths. We have a need for them here. I'm in the process of ordering some yarn; waiting to hear from my friend, an indie dyer. I like to read my Kindle on the elliptical. I listen to a playlist when I'm on the treadmill b/c I warm up walking a 16-minute, mixed interval program and then run for six, Linkin Park songs, and then walk/cool down to Cardi B and Camilla Cabello.
