Crazy Week

This has been a crazy week.  We were supposed to go to NYC for a few days during the middle of the week.  Because the news keeps changing hourly, I was constantly checking the news about the virus outbreak trying my best to decide what we should do.  Do we go?  Do we stay home?

My husband had to see our dentist for (another) newly cracked molar and had the tooth temporarily crowned on Monday.  I babysat on Tuesday and my Little Miss was contrary and sassy.  Those babysitting days are LONG days.  At one point she told me she could do whatever she wanted.  OH MY!

Tuesday night while prepping for our trip, more news came in about our local universities closing and that was the last straw.  I called Telecharge to cancel our broadway tickets (and received a FULL refund!) and I called the hotel who waived their 48 hour cancellation policy.  So we aren't out of any money.  Just sad to not be going but glad to not be going.  Now that I see that NYC is in a state of emergency and the museums are shutting down, it's good we are not going there.

Yesterday we spent nearly 3 hours at the endodontist's office for the specialist to assess if my husband needed a root canal on Monday's capped tooth.  Not only did he need one they did it right then and there.  I read a book in the waiting room while checking the quickly evolving news.

Today I canceled going to the gym, seems to be prudent right now.  Luckily for us, our son and his girlfriend are coming to visit for the weekend.  I'm looking forward to see them both and spending time with them.

For all you practicing Catholics, many dioceses are waiving Mass obligation or cancelling Mass - so check up on that.

I am planning lots and lots of walks, lots and lots of knitting, lots and lots of reading and painting and I'll be researching an exercise routine I can do at home with exercise bands.

Stay safe my friends!

  1. It looks like Broadway has gone dark, so you made a timely call. Better to be safe than sorry. I hope you enjoy your visit with your son and you all stay healthy!

  2. Our school district is closed from March 12 to March 20, all Maryland schools are closed for two weeks, and the Smithsonian museums are closed on a week to week basis. It is crazy times. During my time off and away from people I hope to keep the house clean, knit, and draw. I’m trying to keep worry at bay, it’s mostly working. It is crazy times. Have a lovely visit with you company.

  3. Our churches have stopped having on site services and are doing live streaming. Contrary preschoolers - not so fun. I know these next weeks of being out of school will be hard on a lot of parents and caregivers. Stay well.

    1. Oh your poor husband, and the cracked tooth, requiring root canal. But he must feel so much better, after!

      Oh yes, avoid travel.....

And Gyms.....2 area confirmed cases, visited area gym, before being tested, and another person at gym, has tested positive, now.

Basically everything, where groups gather, is cancelled. Our "Grands" will continue their college semester, via internet teaching.

      Stay safe!
      Courage!

  8. Glad you are not in NYC. One of my VP's whose territory is Manhattan was in the office on Wednesday and he said then it was crazy. Plus, some hospitals are running out of soap and hand sanitizer! I have a few errands I need to run tomorrow and then I plan to hunker down and knit, read, cook and nap! Enjoy the weekend with your family.

  9. So glad cancelling your trip was easy! (we have two trips to cancel ... and now we're up in the air about Sara/England... oh well, our troubles are small compared to others') I am so very grateful for books and knitting and this community. Stay well and enjoy your son's visit!

  11. It's pretty much the same around here. Church cancelled. Colleges and universities going online. This afternoon our governor closed all the schools in the states to students but teachers will report and do online lessons so we won't have to make up any days (I hope). Yes, certainly a crazy week! So glad your son and his girlfriend are coming to visit. Have a good weekend.

  14. I agree with everyone. Home is the best place to be right now. My daughter and two grandsons were supposed to visit us for a a few days. We were all disappointed but know it was the right decision for her not to fly with children though a NYC airport. Schools and university here is cancelled for the time being. Let's all knit on and stay calm. Enjoy your kids' visit. Stay well and safe.

  16. It's crazy here, too. Our church has been live streaming only since last Sunday, and we've not had choir since the 20th. We also cancelled a long planned trip to CA/AZ which was disappointing as we were planning to see long time friends in CA and then my sis and BIL in AZ. Have a good visit with your son! Schools here are closed at least until April, so we hope to help DD with the GK a couple times a week as long as we stay healthy. Take care!
