Randomness

Good morning! How are all of you? How has your week been?

Spring took a nose dive for a few days with temperatures in the forties. Good grief. I am thankful that my rhododendron blossoms survived. Within days, my flowering apple tree should be showing off. The older I get the more I like spring. I don't mind the cold blitzes all that much either. I'm hoping today we get out for a daily walk in sunshine.

Frodo had a 'beauty' appointment and is looking ever so dapper. He shivers for two-three days from the conservative hair cut. He's such an old man, we just blanket him up and love him as his body adjusts.

The knitting continues to be only at night time. I have officially started the Great Declutter this week. I worked mainly on thinning out the filing cabinet and the overflow of documents into SIX shoeboxes. I've made great progress and finished the last drawer yesterday. I'm now contemplating going through my clothing. I know once I start I will create a huge mess.  I'm pretty good at thinning out what I don't wear every six months but for some reason I want to be brutal and relentless.

My husband and I are watching Tiny House Hunters and maybe I am flirting with the pipe dream of living with less is more. I remember when my dad would pick me up from University and my belongings fit in the truck (no furniture). Wasn't that minimal living? I know I cannot downsize into a truck bed, but I can scrutinize what I haven't touched in 5-10-15 years. I'll keep you posted with my progress.

I continue to journal daily and sketch daily in the afternoons instead of knitting. This is where I need to be for now.

Holly loves early spring and watching the birds outside while day breaks. She is so cute. Did you know we play fetch every morning while I drink my coffee? Well it's sort of a fetch game. I throw her a little stuffed mouse and she runs after it. Then she comes back (without it) and then I fetch it to toss it again. I'm well trained and she gets her kitty exercise. She is trained to be poised to run when I say 'are you ready?'.

When my husband has a zoom meeting upstairs, she plays fetch by herself and it sounds like a herd of elephants they way she barrels back and forth in the hallway. She is a happy cat. We are so glad we rescued her and gave her a home.

  1. Isn't it funny how loud a single cat can sound? My aunt once had a cat who would fetch crumpled up paper and bring it back so that it could be tossed again! Love your drawing/painting. I'm enjoying Spring too - more so than usual!

  2. Aww, Holly looks so happy and content curled up on the back of the sofa, and Frodo looks like he is freezing! Good luck with The Great Declutter and have a lovely weekend!

  3. I remember our cats sitting on the back of the couch watching the birds. We haven't had a cat for a few years but may get another one some day. I am glad you had a good week, doing what you love. See you again soon!

  4. What a sweet post. I like hearing about all the things you do each day. Your fur babies are so lucky to belong to you guys. Your sketching and painting is improving daily. Hopefully spring will stay there now.

  5. Frodo sure is a cute old man and of course I love sweet Holly too. How is it that kitties can sound like horses running around? I had a kitty that actually did play fetch but not just with her toys. In the middle of the night she would take empty toilet paper rolls out of the bathroom garbage and bring them up on the bed to us to play lol. Good luck with the Great Declutter!

  6. Awwwww....Frodo is adorable.

Giroux plays with his mouse toy the exact same we. We BOTH get exercise playing with his "mousie".

  7. Frodo looks perfectly groomed. I am thrilled for Holly that she got you!!!!! I get so much love and calm from our cats. Usually. Miss Pie chases a blue pompom around with great attitude. When Bo is well, she fetches things over and over for Zach.

  8. Hi Karen,
...we've had a bit of a cold snap too...and we still laugh at/with our Jack...who at 15 1/2 + years old is still pretty playful sometimes...last night we put him on the sofa (he can't jump up there himself anymore)...but he rooted around and pushed all of the pillows in the floor and was so proud of himself it was funny...
    ~Have a lovely day!

  9. Sounds like Frodo and Holly are such good companions for you. Decluttering, I haven't done any for awhile. I think of it as an ongoing project. We did a great sweep three years ago but cupboards and closets have a way of filling. I am also going to declutter the files on my computer.

  10. Frodo is so handsome with his haircut! Good luck with the decluttering. We did a good bit of it when we painted in December. With every cabinet, closet, and shelf emptied, it seemed like the perfect opportunity. Since we moved into the house in 2012, my mom had downsized and Marc's mom passed away - we had just added more stuff without really assessing how it all fit together. I'm much happier now that we have less, and what we kept is well-organized and purposeful.
